Opting out is not enough. If schools proceed with this, even with an opt-out option, we have lost.
The public schools have no business indoctrinating children in collectivist ideology. The public schools have only the business to educate, not indoctrinate.
My two boys went to a private Christian school (K-8) and I seriously doubt they would have shown this speech if parents were against it. I feel for the folks who have kids in public schools. I would DEFINATELY keep my kid home that day.
Known by normal people as---Reading.
The "choice" is NOT the child's to make. Someone needs to make this clear to the powers that be that the "child" is, by law, still the responsibility of their parents and if their parents do not want their child corrupted by obama's propaganda then the school has the obligation to honor the parent's wishes in this matter. Should the school officials not wish to honor the parent's wishes as confirmed by a signed and dated letter from the parents then all school officials not abiding by the parent's wishes should be arrested, jailed and/or fined the same way any other adult would be for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Just a suggestion.
The Great Unifier has become The Great Divider.
We live in a reasonable district as far as this stuff goes. Here’s what we received without asking for the school’s position on this.
Dear Parents,
As you may know, on Tuesday, September 8, President Obama will be addressing our nation’s students.
The first day of school is generally a very full day for teachers and students, and many students will be either at lunch or in a classroom with previously planned activities taking place at that time. We have also received a few calls from parents who are concerned about elementary and middle school students viewing a message parents have not had the opportunity to preview. Furthermore, as a general rule, we do not show live television, as we cannot determine the content; therefore, teachers are not showing the President’s speech on Tuesday.
The address will be reviewed by Central Office administration and a decision will be made regarding showing the address to students. If it is decided that it will be shown to students, a letter will be sent to schools by our Educational Services Department to send home for parental information regarding the address and parent permission.
It is our understanding that the President’s message to students is to work hard, set high educational goals and take responsibility for their learning. We encourage parents to discuss with their children what this means within the context of their family’s educational goals.
For further information regarding the Presidents address to students you may go to http://www.ed.gov/admins/lead/academic/bts.html.
Respectfully,
Kenneth Gutman

Just called my kids schools in York County VA and they aren’t showing the video, but will keep a copy in case parents want to have their kids view it later.
Keep up the good work!
Someone will have to explain to these students in 3+ years why Obama is no longer the president.
Our school emailed all parents today to let them know Obama’s speech will not be shown at school! They must have had some serious calls and emails to warrant a mass email. (I sent a polite email days ago.) They will provide the link for those who want to watch it at home. A select few high school government classes will show the speech, but these parents will be notified ahead of time, and these students can opt out if they wish. I am so thankful we live in a nice red area. I feel sorry for the children who aren’t so lucky.
So I called Mr. B’s (Brad’s) district office to ask about this stupid video. I actually got a really nice lady on the phone who agreed that the uproar over a President Palin doing this would be OUT OF THIS WORLD.
She said that in our district, it would be left to each principal as to whether or not they show it. AND, the kids weren’t being forced to watch.
I said to you & I as adults that sounds fine, but in reality, when you have a student say “No thanks” to a teacher, it could be real dicey. To which she whole-heartedly agreed.
On to his actual school. I got a typical state-worker !tchy woman...who put me thru to an answering machine.
Uh huh.
I’ll be calling back soon if I hear nothing.......
I just called my kids elementary school to see if they were planning to air the Obozo Show, and the secretary told me that they have gotten so many calls from parents worried about it and that are threatening to hold their kids from school on that day, that the school administration had to call an emergency meeting with the school board to discuss the issue.
I was also told that school funding is based on attendance and that if a student is absent, then the school won’t get the money that was allotted for that student. So as you can imagine the School board administration is in a panic over the number of parents who are PROMISING to boycott on that day.
Here’s what many of our local ISDs are doing in Texas. Seems the simplest way to say FUBO &CO.
President Obama’s Speech to Schoolchildren
posted: September 2, 2009
“We have received a number of inquiries about whether President Obamas speech to the schoolchildren of America next week will be available live in Leander ISD. Due to the logistics of making a webcast available during that time of the school day, we will not be showing this address in LISD classrooms or campuses. However, as soon as the speech is available, we will place a link on the district website should you and your family choose to view the speech.”

Let me try that again.
Here’s some good news from San Antonio

Broward County (Florida) School Superintendent has officially killed any opt out.
Congratulations on your hard work on this. I just called our school district, I was told that they will return my call later today or tomorrow.
I like the idea of opt-out but I would rather see the option made opt-in.
“If a child chooses not to watch the speech, the child will be sent to our media center to engage in an individual literacy activity directed by the teacher.”
I bet the Media Center is overwhelmed and the kids will have to move to the gym or auditorium.
My kids will be asking the teacher....
1. Why didn’t obama tell us how much that we and our children are going to owe in taxes to balance his bloated budget?
2. Why didn’t Obama tell us how Social Security will be insolvent and either we will have to pay more or give it up for our future retirement?
3. Why didn’t Obama tell us that Freedom isn’t Free and that by taking options off the table in interrogating captured terrorists we may not know when or where the next 911 type attack will be until many more Americans are dead?
4. Why didn’t Obama tell us what he meant when he said the cambridge Police acted STUPIDLY. If he believes that should we all be wary about the police?
5. Why didn’t Obama tell us what his goals in Afghanistan are?
6. Why didn’t Obama ever use the words Freedom and Liberty are these concepts that are foreign to him?
President Obama will address schoolchildren on Tuesday, September 8. That day will be a regularly scheduled instruction day in the Arlington ISD. The district will make the speech available in the future as an instructional resource as deemed appropriate to the district's curriculum. Students and parents will also be able to access the speech through a link on the district's Web site.
I called the Superintendent this morning to voice my opinion.
