Obama's plan to speak to schoolchildren ignites furor in Dallas area

A groundswell of parent opposition to President Barack Obama's speech next week to students on the importance of education has forced many North Texas school districts to question whether to air it live in classrooms.

Obama announced the speech weeks ago, but opposition and concerns spread rapidly Wednesday morning through conservative social networking Web sites and radio talk shows.

By midday, local school districts say, they were inundated with hundreds of phone calls from parents urging them to not show Obama's speech at school.

Some parents threatened to keep their children home from school if the video was aired.

"We had no idea that there would be a public outcry," said Laura Jobe, a Mesquite ISD spokeswoman. "It caught us by surprise."

Why isn’t there an uproar in Cambridge, Des Moines, Atlanta, Spokane and Peoria?

There is. Here in Pinellas county FL the outrage was all over the local news.

Can you imagine the uproar if President Bush had planned such an assault on our school children.

0bama is a moonbat in sheep’s clothing. He seems to back down just a little given our protest and anger. This infuriates the looney left and will hopefully weaken his base in 2010 and 2012.

Pelosi is all set in her San Francisco district for re-election. Reid on the other hand is feeling the heat for his role in 0bamamania.

Why isn’t there an uproar in Cambridge, Des Moines, Atlanta, Spokane and Peoria? Why aren’t there parents marching and demonstrating in Honolulu, Chino, Kansas City and Memphis?

As I'm sure you've already guessed, some of those places are demographically predisposed to kiss Obama's posterior. But even so, the negative reaction to this video is broader than I'd expected.

"A groundswell of parent opposition to President Barack Obama's speech next week to students on the importance of education..."

How does this reporter know what the speech is about?

This is really the least of our problems when it comes to the public schools. I mean, the outcry is fine, but there should be an outcry every day about what they teach.

Time to demand equal time (our Dept. Ed. tax dollars), same day and time simultaneous, first inaugural Ronald Reagen speech, if this thing goes through.

I'm listening to the AM and chuckling at all the libtards calling in saying we shouldn't be so partisan, reactionary or paranoid.

Well, I'll demonstrate paranoid for you; I think this may be another ploy to collect an “enemies list” by virtue of the fact that we will have a headcount for families who refused to listen to Obama.

Who has the lists of those NOT in attendance on September 8th, 2009??

My kids already won't be there because we work our asses off to keep them in a private Christian school and the school is punished everyday by the Fed and the State with more regulation and unnecessary oversight.

We have a right to object and we do!

If Obama is going to speak to the next generation of voters it should be to apologize for taking away their ability to live prosperous lives. He should NOT be welcomed into the classroom where he can “encourage them to work hard, so that the government can simply take their earnings away from them.

This guy is absolutely beneath contempt!

I wonder whats going on in VA, remember they would not let McCain on school campus during campaign.

I'm ok with it if it's just a generic talk encouraging the kids to work and study hard and how they should not grow up looking for the Gov’t to solve all their problems. Reagan would be great at this. How in America your success is based on your efforts. How it important to help your neighbors, how local gov’t is more important to them then the Fed.

But I go a feeling it not going to be that way, I think parents should at less be able to view it before the kids see it.

My 9th grade daughter will be in class on the 8th all day and I’m not worried about any marxist indoctrination.

WHY?

Because I made the decision 10 years ago to put her in Christian schools K-12, and I’m very proud and happy with my decision. We’ve had to give up alot of “material” things in order to make this happen, but my investment in her education is one of the most important things I could do for her as a mom, and I’ve never regreted it.

“We had no idea that there would be a public outcry,” said Laura Jobe, a Mesquite ISD spokeswoman. “It caught us by surprise.”

That's what they generally say when they get caught doing something they shouldn't. They knew there would be opposition, they just hoped to sneak it under the parents' radar.

LOL!

I checked my kids' website, and they already have this up:

President Obama's Speech to Schoolchildren
We have received a number of inquiries about whether President Obama’s speech to the schoolchildren of America next week will be available “live” in [**] ISD. Due to the logistics of making a webcast available during that time of the school day, we will not be showing this address in our classrooms or campuses. However, as soon as the speech is available, we will place a link on the district website should you and your family choose to view the speech.

Good for them!

While disturbing this speech is only the tip of the iceberg. The kids get liberal indoctrination for 38 weeks a year and interact more with government school officials than they do their parents most days.

From the Lewisville ISD website:

Sept. 8 - President Obama’s address to students
In order to not interrupt instructional learning, the District will not be participating in President Obama’s live broadcast on Sept. 8. However, once the speech has been archived, a link will be provided on the District Web site to allow students and their families to access the speech at home.
