A Gwinnett County man is in custody Wednesday accused of slapping a stranger’s crying toddler in a Stone Mountain Wal-Mart.

Witnesses say that Roger Stephens, 61, warned the mother of the child that he would “shut up the crying child if she couldn’t,” WSB-TV is reporting. Stephens is accused of slapping the 2-year-old multiple times in the face and then walking away.

A bystander held Stephens until store security came to assist, according to the story.

Yep, they would have needed security to pull me off of that guy!

you and me both

folks here who think slapping a two year old in the face for crying must not have kids or they are frigging warped.

and I am all for spanking...do it all the time and have for 21 years now and will for another 10 or so God willing

and my daddy “spanked my bare ass” too 24-7...mother slapped

but two year olds are a mite fragile with their little oversized bobbing noggins for slapping...a few swats to the hand or pampered butt will do

and you simply don’t slap another person’s child in the face baring something very extraordinary even at an older age

And then I would slap him for complaining about the beating!

“Roger, that wasn't smart. You slapped the wrong person.”

EXACTLY! I bet his slap didn't help the situation to quiet down one bit. What an ignoramus

If a person is too sensitive to shop at Walmart, where there are - egad! - families with young children, who are sometimes noisy, he should shop someplace else.

You forgot to add that swats depend on why the child is crying. If it’s a temper tantrum, they get a swat. If it’s an overly tired 2 yr old (or hungry) because Mom had to shop, no swat.

How do you get your 21-year old to hold still for it? Mine started getting hard to put over my knee at about 16 or 17, LOL!

I have that same problem, but with grandsons.

He’d be one very battered and bruised man if it were my child.

Absolutely. I have two kids under age 3. Given their age, they're well behaved in public, however, they still occasionally have crying fits.

Anyone, especially a stranger in a store, who touches my kid is going to visit the ER.

If you aid and abet doing it to a newborn, you get elected POTUS ... or at least to the Senate.

Way out of line.

Slap my kid, and I punch you. Fair enough?

yes.

i have a 2 years and 7 months old upstairs right now eating Purnells Sausage and Biscuits with his siblings and I think I have had to swat him maybe 3 times...for throwing something at his mom or not putting down a henckels knife he grabbed once

never would slap him....yet

of my five....slapped oldest daughter at aged 15 once..she was quick and I barely tagged her...she had told me “she didn’t care what I thought”..she’s Deans List at David Lispcomb and applying for Ole Miss or Tulane Law so we’ve both moved on past that fun moment

youngest daughter....never..but there still time...she’s only 19..lol

two older boys...oh yeah, but more likely to spank with big paint stirrer like Lowes has...great paddles...but my spanking days are numbered with oldest boy...he is built like Brock Lesnar and can take a punch ...

but I have knuckled rapped the tops of their heads in the car when they are fighting or being bratty or sass their very maternal and and soft as putty mommy

we had my eldest daughter in 1988 and have 5 now with a two year old and others in between

by the time youngest is 21...God willing...who knows...I will have been rearing kids for 39.8 years

more time than the average age of youngbloods here
