There's this belief that all humans are pretty much the same so someone from the subtropics should be able to thrive in the subarctic, and vice versa.

That belief is total nonsense.

It's not a matter of personal adaptation either ~ if you don't have the correct body proportions, the right degree of melanin, the correct shape of heart, the right liver, and so on and so forth, you will fail to reproduce successfully and will be gobbled up and excreted by the land as if your kind had never existed.

I am surprised that those skin and bones women in the starving third world countries manage to conceive. I find that quite amazing.

Only if you ignore the ability of the human body to adapt and evolve.

Large swathes of the United States would otherwise be de-populated of Caucasians through skin cancer and other environment-induced malignancies.
