Bipartisan support for Kennedy's widow to assume seat

While Ted Kennedy's widow, Vicki Kennedy, has indicated she is not interested in assuming her husband's Senate seat, there is bipartisan support for her to take the job, if only temporarily.
The Massachusetts state legislature is getting ready to debate a bill that would give Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick the authority to appoint an interim senator to fill the seat until a special election is held and some are suggesting the 55-year-old lawyer would be perfect for the job.
"I think Vicki ought to be considered," said Orrin Hatch on CNN's "State of the Union."
Hatch called Vicki Kennedy " a very brilliant lawyer" and "solid individual."
Vicki Kennedy is credited with helping her husband end his self-destructive behavior years ago and she also helped run his Senate office in the final months of his life.
Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., a longtime friend of Ted Kennedy, said he would let Vicki Kennedy decide whether she is interested in the job, but he would back her if she wants it.
"Whatever Vicki wants to do, I'm in her corner," Dodd said.
Washington needs (pick one or more)
___ANOTHER LAWYER?
___ANOTHER KENNEDY?
___ANOTHER LIBERAL?
___ANOTHER COMMUNITY ACTIVIST/ORGANIZER?
___NONE OF THE ABOVE?
That argument worked for our Secretary of State...
I vote no. Just because you were porking some old fat rich dude does not mean you are entitled to a seat in the senate.
I’ve never believed in the election of districts or senatorships as an inheiritance of widows
First of all this woman just laid to rest the man SHE loved. These seat vultures should let her mourn in her own way and let her alone. She has the projects which interest her.
Secondly, I think we need to stop this seat warming and inheritance notion with regard to Senate and Congressional seats. The law in MASS now is for an election and that is what it should be, an honest election. That said, it matters not much if a Kennedy or member of the Kennedy clan runs for the seat..the dummies in MASS who continued to elect the likes of Teddy, Barney etc will just do it all over again.
In our Congress, it describes the behavior of a timid minority party that has come to love being a minority (just as they once did in the 1960s and 70s), because it relieves them of serious responsibility while limiting personal invective and abuse at the hands of the majority and their news media mouthpieces.
Given the crush of DC geezers that openly adore her, it’s likely she’ll have her pick of senior suitors.
And McLame
Looks increasingly like we have a one party system. I was convinced of it after the GOP nominated McCain to throw the election.
Right now, I’m more angry at the Republicans for putting up with this crap. Enough already. Out with McCain - out with Hatch - out with Snowe out with all of them.
If she signed a prenup...no way! If she didn't...you betcha!
I think Tom DeLay would make a better stand in for Teddy than his widow.
Leave it to Orrin Hatch to show how far gone he is. Either these people get thrown out of the GOP or it is dead and conservatives need to find a new home. You cannot have a reliant opposition to the radicalism going on now when you have idiots like this giving them free reign. I have to say I despise Hatch and I used to like the man, but he has problems.
Too bad Patrick “The Idiot” Kennedy is already in the House. He’d be the perfect seat-warmed for his dad. Stupid, derranged, corrupt, drug and alcohol addled, and a serial adulterer.
Well at least there is no inbreeding amongst the Kennedys from what I know.
Wow, they really were a match made in heaven.
Good God, are the people of Massachusets so 'effing infatuated with their mythical little royal family that they want to piss all over the rule of law?!!!??????
Unbelievable.
With McLame and Hatch you're correct.AZ and UT can easily do much,*much* better than them. But,given today's (sad) reality in Maine, you throw Snowe out and you're *guaranteed* to get a RAT who'll vote with Hussein *100%* of the time rather than Snowe's 85%.
