In a statement the company the said, "Following the union's vote, the company will consolidate much of its Fond du Lac manufacturing operations with its existing operations in an expanded Stillwater, Oklahoma, facility."
Mercury Marine is Fond du Lac's largest employer, with 2,000 workers, and community leaders have expressed fears losing the plant would affect even more jobs countywide.

Well, is Wisconsin as screwed up, union-wise, as Michigan?
Feingold is Wisconsin a senator isn’t he?
Typical “A” grade machinist at Merc was pulling down around 70K a year.
Yes he is and he is an A$$ hat to boot along with Herb Kohl (who BTW happens to won Kohl’s shopping centers all over Wisconsin)
It's OK, Donny. The union will say it's all the fault of the greedy corporation; you'll buy the explanation and continue to vote Democrat and buy American.
And even if you do have some sense about you and don't fall for union bullshit, plenty of your fellow citizens will, and in ten years they'll all be living in cardboard boxes under a bridge, scraping Spam remnants out of a can and wondering how they got there.
IIRC in the newspaper story that was in an earlier post on the subject it was over $20 and hour for senior workers.
The junior workers were in the $11 to $13 range.
No, it’s Wisconsin.
lol, what a bunch of morons.
The offer that the union rejected was:
pay freeze for 7 years
new hires and recalled workers to be paid $11-$13/hr
current workers to maintain present pay rate
And all this with no guarantee that the jobs wouldn’t be moved anyway.
I doubt this very much. besides, unemployment is limited in duration but only a union moron would fail to see the benefits of a permanent job WITH retirement and health benefits as being somehow less then collecting unemployment benefits which BTW are taxable.
If those union workers think they know what’s best for themselves, they ought to start their own company. Period!!!
They better be shutting down Fond Du Lac TODAY or else they will have to quadruple their quality control.
Nothing good comes out of an unhappy union shop....and I can bet any documentation, procedures, etc. that get transferred to OK are going to be full of incorrect / missing information.
I agree!! States rights and the tenth amendment is the fire wall. if that is ignored and this march towards a socialist thugocracy continues there will be a revolt!!
Why should ANY employee have a guarantee of a job? Can an employee leave any time they choose? If so why can’t the company do the same or modify it’s work force as conditions require?
those union guys are so smart...
thats exactly what they did to the workers at Kroger in Baton Rouse a few years ago.
Mgmt told them they had to get some break on wages or they would be forced to leave the market. Union voted it down-Kroger moved out of town. Workers had to find other jobs...
smart...really...uh huh...
WEAC is the teacher’s union in this state and its funds, plus Indian Casino money are responsible for much of the political outcomes in Wisconsin.
I have no idea why teachers believe that their interests are represented by these thugs. The disconnect between teachers and their loyalty to reprehensible behavior has always been difficult for me to understand. Why don’t they see that their union membership and funding of thugs in government is bad for their students?
Have you ever tried to have an intelligent discussion with any union member? If so, you will fully understand “union think” and why they would gladly destroy their own source of income and feel good about it.
If it were true, do you think it would justify the direction of the union membership's vote?
The union screwed their fellow workers, their county, their community, FDL, WI, and Wisc. last night. They will lose 1800 Merc workers to OK non-union workers who would be happy to have a job. The union also totally screwed approximately 8000 down-stream "job shops" that supply parts to Mercury in FDL....a town of 50,000 will lose approximately 10,000 workers in the next 2 years either directly or indirectly to the union.
Because workers are a local resource like any other. Businesses don't get to just "use" them with impunity.
