And Obama has repeatedly put forward that falsehood that his ShamWow Healthcare Product wouldn’t cover abortion.
The Senate HELP committee (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) in July defeated four pro-life amendments intended to stop the government paying for and promoting abortions.
They voted them all downl on 12-11 party-line votes with only Sen. Bob Casey, of Pennsylvania being the lone Democrat joining Republicans to support the abortion limits.
They defeated an amendment from Sen. Mike Enzi of Wyoming to remove the “abortion mandate” from the health care bill and another from Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah to remove the abortion subsidies.
They also rejected an amendment from Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma to protect state laws limiting abortions and abortion funding from being nullified by federal law under the health care bill and a second that would protect the conscience rights of health care workers.
If you parse it out, the Obama operatives admit that (1) there will be approved insurance plans that will cover abortion, and (2) these plans, these packages, will be subsidized by public funding. Therefore, public funds will be covering abortions.
They know how the Senate HELP Committee voted. They also know the meaning of the word “fungible.”
I guess they assume we don’t.
On July 17, the House Committee on Ways and Means approved the America’s Health Choices Act (H.R. 3200). In the course of the debate, it considered the
"No funds authorized under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act) may be used to pay for an abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion, except in the case where a woman suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, or unless the pregnancy is the result of an act of forcible rape or incest."
In other words, the amendment barred “government funding of abortion.” It failed: 19 voted for it and 22 voted against it.
Does Obama not know this? Or is he just flat-out lying?
