Former Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive Carly Fiorina has taken the first formal step toward running for the U.S. Senate seat of Democrat Barbara Boxer.
Fiorina filed for a tax identification number on Tuesday and registered a campaign committee named "Carly for California." The committee will allow her to begin raising money for a potential 2010 run for the Republican nomination.
Spokeswoman Beth Miller says the 54-year-old Fiorina, who stumped for Sen. John McCain during his presidential run, will begin meeting with policy advisers and donors but has no timetable for making a formal announcement. If she runs, Fiorina would face state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore of Irvine in the GOP primary. The announcement from the former HP head comes just a day after fundraising numbers were revealed for California political candidates. Meg Whitman, Fiorina's fellow Sen. McCain supporter, the former eBay CEO raised more than $10 million for her run for California governor since Jan. 1. While San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom raised just over $1.7 million for the state's highest position. Fiorina took the top job at HP in 1999 and led a $24 billion acquisition of Compaq Computer before being forced out in 2005.
Schwarzenegger says CARLYFIORNIA !
Waiting for the FR outcries of another RINO in the Senate ...
With her spending spree and subsequent outsourcing to India at HP can probably safely bet that she fit right in with the big spending RINOs.
Oh dang, beat me lol
With what she did to HP, I don’t think she can win in CA. Maybe another state, but not CA.
Fiorina is no good. She is Boxer lite.
Give me Chuck DeVore or Larry Elder!
Tell me why CA conservatives should get behind someone who is essentially Mitt Romney in a skirt? Tom Cornyn and the NRSC has already thrown their weight behind Fiorna, unfortunately. Backing DeVore is a no-brainer.
because they love how she handled HP and mccain’s campaign? i dunno...
Okay, answer this question. Name the last true conservative Senator from California?
I wouldn’t compare her to romney. She doesn’t pretend to be a conservative when she’s really a rino. She’s just really a rino
Just to watch the bee eye tee ch lose. that in itself would be cool.
You have seen the same threads as I; you know, defending that woman is a lost cause; rightfully so I might add.
A better question would be:
Name the last Republican Senator out of CA?
Answers: 1969 for Boxer's seat, and 1992 for Feinstein's seat.
You think by promoting yet another RINO is going to give the Republicans the seat?
that must be....Senator Hayakawa!
I’m sure you’re right about that, but this Californian will be really, really, really happy to see even a “moderate” R take out the Box.
ok pete wilson is a republican but not so conservative
I’m sure you’re right about that, but this Californian will be really, really, really happy to see even a “moderate” R take out the Box.
Same here, but I suspect that is not the consensus on FR.
