In what is shaping up to be one of the more effective boycott campaigns in years, advertisers are abandoning the "Glenn Beck" show on Fox News following the host's incendiary comments that President Barack Obama is a "racist" and has a "deep-seated hatred for white people."
Among the advertisers to pull spots from the popular cable talk show are Geico, owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.a (BRK .A 99,275, +275.00, +0.28%) /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.b (BRK .B 3,235, +5.20, +0.16%) ; Procter & Gamble /quotes/comstock/13*!pg/quotes/nls/pg (PG 52.49, +0.28, +0.54%) ; Sargento Cheese; and Progressive Insurance /quotes/comstock/13*!pgr/quotes/nls/pgr (PGR 16.01, -0.08, -0.50%) , according to the companies and Color of Change, one group that is organizing a campaign against the program....
Adding fuel to the fire is Donny Deutsch, a TV personality and head of the ad agency Deutsch Inc., which is part of the Interpublic Group /quotes/comstock/13*!ipg/quotes/nls/ipg (IPG 5.95, +0.02, +0.34%) . He, too, called for a boycott of Beck's show, saying on the air on the business-news channel CNBC that "this has to stop," and the "only way this stops" is if sponsors pull their support....

****Modern, high-strung HE washers unfortunately cant tolerate the sudsing generated by traditional saponified-fat soaps.****
That is one of the benefits of making your own laundry soap, it is very low in suds...even more so if you use fels naptha as the bar soap. Ivory does tend to leave a film(a P&G product...:)
I hope the Walmart and CVS info is correct.
I've noticed your company has decided to enter the emotionally-charged field of politics. While you claim to want exactly the opposite, your recent decision to stop advertising during the Glenn Beck program on Fox News places your company squarely into the fray. At the specific behest of a liberal activist organization, you have taken direction from these same activists on where to not invest your advertising. By becoming unaligned with the Glenn Beck audience you have decided to specifically align with radicals who are anti-corporate and anti-capitalist. Well done!
Since your latest advertising determination is to eschew your actual customers at the behest of those who hate your company, let it be known that your advertising has worked. As long as you hold to the political positions of my country's enemies, I will patronize your competition. I no longer need your specific product as it is just another commodity which is available from any number of other manufacturers, many of whom actually value the paronage of their customers.
If you should ever again determine that you want to stop taking direction from those who are working against my family's best interests, just come home to the Glenn Beck program. I could consider your products once again.
I wish they would get rid of the free credit report guy. He is a pure Di%khead.
We have found the Costco brand Kirkland to be very good.
****Cavuto even dismissed the Death Panels comment because life or death decisions are made by insurance companies now****
My problem in fully understanding this debate stems from the fact that we are not operating in a purely capitalistic manner regarding the insurance companies because of governmental interference in the marketplace.
Were insurance companies so disregarding clients wishes that it became necessary for the government to intervene, or did government intervene unnecessarily in lieu of a marketplace solution? Or did insurance lobbyists press for more regulations that increased revenue?
Who pushed for and set up the current rulebook that determines how the insurance companies operate? Are these life and death decisions being made because insurers are providing fairly for what the consumer is paying for minus the governmental economic marketplace distortions?
Great letter! I may “borrow” parts of that, if you don’t mind, and parts of anonsquared’s letter with the shopping list. I use a LOT of P&G products, and I will have quite the list for them in my own letter to the CEO.
Thanks!
For a boycott to be effective, doesn’t there either need to be a) a loss in revenue b) loss in ratings or c) cancellation?
None of these three have occured. So I fail to see how the headline is accurate. Wishful thinking. LOL
Best I can see it’s just helping build Glen’s name recognition, turning people to his show to find out the fuss. Then it opens up new ad spots for others to take to advertise their product.
I don’t think these people get it. Effective boycotts start at the bottom driven by the people. A few companies either from partisanship or fear withdrawing support at the demands of Obama’s Czar’s just cannot work because the people don’t want Glen punished and will not stop buying products from those who advertise there. Since the government doesn’t have complete control of private enterprise yet...there will still be people who advertise.
They lose. The sponsers who withdraw ads may even lose.
I think I agree with you. The private health insurance companies are largely regulated and socialized now, as opposed to auto-insurance that is allowed to charge you based on risk including statistic based risk. When democrats say that health insurance companies shouldnt be able to discriminate against some for being sick they are making a case for forced redistribution from the healthy to the already sick. Maryland did the same with homeowners insurance.
The problem with the ‘death panels’ is that seniors already are on socialized medicine depending on the young, many of who dont have their own insurance, to pay for it. (This is because seniors are mobilized and the young are clueless and too lazy to understand how it all plays together.)
Go to hell you PC pussy!
Leftwing censorship at work.
Funny thing was I glad to watch the repeat of Glen’s show last night at 2AM instead of Hannity. Glen’s great to watch and glad I had a chance ‘cause at 5PM I was busy.
Moveon could hire you to march around at townhall meetings with a ‘Obama is Hitler’ sign to put on the news to show all opposed to Obama are crackpots,
OOOPS, you do that now for free LOL, sorry
Between geico’s stupid lizard, gieco’s stupid cavemen and this twit on progressive (socialist) insurance, I am damn happy to see them go. Hope those “extenze” with the cheesy $25 hooker ads go too.
P&G will be getting a note from me!
We need to thank the advertisers that stay with GB.
You can bet that ad slots will not stay empty.
Take your PC don’t offend anyone and shove it!
I’m sure there is a long list of sponsors who will take their places. What Fox should do is move him to night time and rename the how Glenn Beck PM or something like that. It would be an easy way to kill this off.
Shouldnt you be outside a town hall meeting with a sign that says “Go back to Nigeria Obama” ???
If there was one I would do it proudly!
He’s an illegal alien that should be arrested and deported!
