Advertisers Deserting Fox News' Glenn Beck
Market Watch ^ | 8/14/09 | William Spain

Posted on 08/18/2009 7:08:18 AM PDT by steve-b

In what is shaping up to be one of the more effective boycott campaigns in years, advertisers are abandoning the "Glenn Beck" show on Fox News following the host's incendiary comments that President Barack Obama is a "racist" and has a "deep-seated hatred for white people."

Among the advertisers to pull spots from the popular cable talk show are Geico, owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.a (BRK .A 99,275, +275.00, +0.28%) /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.b (BRK .B 3,235, +5.20, +0.16%) ; Procter & Gamble /quotes/comstock/13*!pg/quotes/nls/pg (PG 52.49, +0.28, +0.54%) ; Sargento Cheese; and Progressive Insurance /quotes/comstock/13*!pgr/quotes/nls/pgr (PGR 16.01, -0.08, -0.50%) , according to the companies and Color of Change, one group that is organizing a campaign against the program....

Adding fuel to the fire is Donny Deutsch, a TV personality and head of the ad agency Deutsch Inc., which is part of the Interpublic Group /quotes/comstock/13*!ipg/quotes/nls/ipg (IPG 5.95, +0.02, +0.34%) . He, too, called for a boycott of Beck's show, saying on the air on the business-news channel CNBC that "this has to stop," and the "only way this stops" is if sponsors pull their support....

Steve-b,

I understand you have your leftist agenda to spread and all, but let me ask you this.

When was the last time someone working for a current administration was responsible for pressuring private sector companies into pulling thier ads from someone with opposing views? When was the last time a current administration employed a person to suppress free speech?

NOT private citizens, but someone the PRESIDENT hired and is STILL EMPLOYED.

Other than Chavez, Castro, Lenin, or Hussein.

The P&G brand commands a premium in the market. I would not be surprised that competing alternatives cost less.

Great post and advice!

Send it to the new P & G CEO.

A tough job for P&G’s new CEO
Bob McDonald must confront the fact that consumers are trading products like Tide, Olay, and Gillette for discount names and private labels.

And probably perform just as good if not better. You can make your own laundry soap with borax, Washing Soda(sodium carbonate), and bar soap.

These are the kind of people behind the boycott...

Afro-Netizen website:

Christian J. Raab, credited frequently as Raab Himself (born May 21, 1980 in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania), a member of the CKY Crew, was part of “Bam’s Crew” on Viva La Bam and appeared in MTV’s Jackass, Jackass: The Movie, and Haggard. Raab attended Shippensburg University. Chris Raab was expelled from East High School in Westchester, Pennsylvania after smearing feces on lockers[1].

In 2008, he released a DVD entitled Hotdog Casserole that consists of skits, a 30-minute short film, outtakes, and documentary footage. The cast includes several “CKY Crew” members, including Brandon DiCamillo and Rake Yohn.

Healthy Choice, Radio Shack, Roche and Sanofi-Aventis pull ads from Fox News’ Glenn Beck
Hi, Afro-Netizens! This is James Rucker of ColorofChange.org, and I’m really excited to be blogging here for the first time today.

More great news today in our campaign calling on Glenn Beck’s advertisers to pull their support from his show. With more than 125,000 people now having signed our petition to Beck’s advertisers, four more major companies have pulled their ads.

Last night to see what was going on the other side as far as advertisers were concerned. I put the channel on Keith Olbermann, of course the mute was off, but it was still difficult to have the smirk in front of me. Between 8:15 and 8:20 and @8:30 some of the adverisers were: Cheese-it; Downey; Chevvy cars; Intel; Upstate (NY) Ford; Ditech financeing; SmartBalance foods system; Nutrisystem; I could not watch that face beyond 8:30.

“Funny thing is we can abandon them as well....2 can play THIS game!”

Yes, it’s very simple, conservatives who believe that Glenn Beck is being punished unfairly for speaking the truth should boycott the companies that have abandoned the Glenn Beck show, and ‘buycott’ the companies that are staying with the show.

Just called a buddy of mine that has a Harley and he gets his insurance through Dairyland Mutual. I am not sure if they only operate in Texas or not. Hope this helps. You could try calling Harley and asking them. They can probably help you find a company in your neck of the woods.

“the astro turf group that started this CLAIMS 600 members.

I bet they did not exist until a few weeks ago.

this is “jamming”.

The FACT is Obama is a racist.

The FACT is Mrs. Obama is a racist.

The FACT is racism is good business for community organizers.”

You nailed it!

I know something else. Obama is in for two very painful years, with more and more americans either madder at him or demoralized.

I watch both Beck and Cavuto daily and Cavuto comes off as much more serious and reliable because he doesnt go the personal route. Cavuto even dismissed the ‘Death Panels’ comment because life or death decisions are made by insurance companies now. He also ripped McCain a few days before the election for trying to have the bailouts both ways. He daily brings on liberals, and makes them look foolish, like Megn Kelly does.

Personally, I want a valid argument, not emotional political points to try to work me up.

Modern, high-strung “HE” washers unfortunately can’t tolerate the sudsing generated by traditional saponified-fat soaps. Like gas bubbles exerting pressure in the stomach, the suds force their way past bearing seals and wash out the seal lubrication. The special detergents are the only game in town with these machines. Attempting to simply “use less” of a sudsier formula gives a poor wash, coats the inside of the machine with gook, and gets into the bearings anyhow.

Donny Deutsch is just jealous that his show was canceled. The idiot is a blowhard who likes to drink, chase women and had an illegitimate child.

He better watch himself. The only reason Deutsch “made it” is he rode his daddy’s coattails and used his father’s connections in NY.

Thanks for the P&G list and the alternatives. I will be following your lead.

I will now have to set a schedule to record Glen Beck as I am at work during the time of his show.

Good point. O’Reilly is a NYC version of Willie Stark.

Walmart pulled there ads too

This is apparently misinformation.

From http://www.defendglenn.com/advertisers.php

Color of Change is claiming that WalMart, CVS, BestBuy, and Allergan have “pulled” their ads. It appears that only Allergan has actually confirmed this. BestBuy has not, and strangely, WalMart and CVS were not even sponsors of Glenn’s to begin with!

“Beck has been doing in-depth reporting on the ties between ACORN and other scary groups and the folks pulling Obama’s strings. He’s done programs on the backgrounds — socialist and communist — of administration officials. With facts.”

Beck is worth his weight in gold for this alone!!

Problem with this strategy is:

Glenn Beck’s ratings are high.
MSNBC and CNBC’s aren’t.

People who want their products to be seen will come around and spend the dough. Buffett’s going to be exposed for the liberal robber baron that he is some day.

Thank God I don't have to see those stupid Progressive commercials with that annoying woman dressed in white with the red lip stick. I turn the channel every time one of those come on.

Yes, they are annoying. One of Progressive Insurances commercials had the "woman in white with the big red mouth" saying "power to the people" and then fist bumping the other character in the commercial. Just like the highly publicized fist bump of Obama and Michelle.
