Advertisers Deserting Fox News' Glenn Beck
Market Watch ^ | 8/14/09 | William Spain

Posted on 08/18/2009 7:08:18 AM PDT by steve-b

In what is shaping up to be one of the more effective boycott campaigns in years, advertisers are abandoning the "Glenn Beck" show on Fox News following the host's incendiary comments that President Barack Obama is a "racist" and has a "deep-seated hatred for white people."

Among the advertisers to pull spots from the popular cable talk show are Geico, owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.a (BRK .A 99,275, +275.00, +0.28%) /quotes/comstock/13*!brk.b (BRK .B 3,235, +5.20, +0.16%) ; Procter & Gamble /quotes/comstock/13*!pg/quotes/nls/pg (PG 52.49, +0.28, +0.54%) ; Sargento Cheese; and Progressive Insurance /quotes/comstock/13*!pgr/quotes/nls/pgr (PGR 16.01, -0.08, -0.50%) , according to the companies and Color of Change, one group that is organizing a campaign against the program....

Adding fuel to the fire is Donny Deutsch, a TV personality and head of the ad agency Deutsch Inc., which is part of the Interpublic Group /quotes/comstock/13*!ipg/quotes/nls/ipg (IPG 5.95, +0.02, +0.34%) . He, too, called for a boycott of Beck's show, saying on the air on the business-news channel CNBC that "this has to stop," and the "only way this stops" is if sponsors pull their support....

Wow, do you need a refresher. Socialism is when government subsidizes something. Capitalism is when a company makes an investment until something pays off . . . or doesn’t. World of difference. Plenty of star companies have subsidized a losing product until it could make it on its own.

Well, they should pull out of the other shows too. They have attacked George Bush in much the same ways.

The guy has tons of viewers.

Other sponsors are probably lined up at the door to sponsor his show.

More proof the left do not understand the free market system.

Actually, a few of them do.

I watch the ‘Military Channel’ and another hunting channel on cable (can’t recall the name) and they advertise guns all the time.

True though, I haven’t seen any on ‘broadcast’ t.v.

Color Of Change, Changing the color of democracy.

ColorOfChange.org exists to strengthen Black America’s political voice. Our goal is to empower our members—Black Americans and our allies

a race-baiting group named Color Of Change — co-founded by President Obama’s “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones — has launched a campaign to get companies to stop advertising on Glenn Beck’s television program.

Recent press releases from COC concerning Beck have listed as the contact “Brandon Hatler — Sunshine, Sachs & Associates.”

As Variety reported in May 2007, SSA is a powerful New York-based public relations firm with quite an impressive list of clients:

Current clients include Ben Affleck, Jon Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jimmy Fallon, the Farrelly brothers, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, John Mayer, Bette Midler, Michael Moore, Tyler Perry, Barbra Streisand and Michelle Wie.

SSA also represents Van Jones’s Green for All,(Obama’s “Green Jobs Czar”) “a national organization working to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.”

When you add it all up, a current member of the Obama administration is co-founder of a group trying to get a conservative talker off the air, and is being assisted by a powerful New York PR firm.

And America’s so-called journalists couldn’t care less.

I stopped buying Sargento a few years ago when I opened a bag of shredded Mozarella and it had this big glob of wet white something gross in it...lol. We don’t buy Progressive Insurance because they are long time supporters of statism and we have never bought Geico Insurance either. Men’s Warehouse is another place we don’t shop. Who else is on the list?

I have never frozen it, but I doubt that it will. It must be used within 7 days of the production date or it rapidly loses its consistency. That is one reason why it is hard to get. That and the lack of water buffalo in North and South America. That is changing though as upscale pizza restaurants are helping to set up Water Buffalo farms in Mexico.

Beck doesn’t help matters by dressing and acting like Clarabell the Clown...

Henry Rifles has occasionally advertised on FNC over the past couple of months. I did a double take when I saw the ad the first time.

From that list, it seems very difficult to boycott P&G products entirely.

Just a bunch of mushy thought processes with a ‘hate whitey’ theme. That’s about it, I would guess.

Eventually it will come down (as it always does) to money. For a company to voluntarily shut itself off from a huge audience - especially in a recession - is just plain dumb. This is just an example of Big Business being cowed by fear and responding in a way likely to lose value for their shareholders.

Doesn't matter who Beck's advertisers are. The point of a boycott is to hit the channel in the pocketbook for carrying Beck. The story quotes a spokespersion who says that advertising revenue has been unaffected. The boycott has failed.

As long as Beck's ratings are sky-high and their revenue is unaffected, Roger Ailes and all the Fox News executives couldn't care less.

LIBERAL BOYCOTT FAIL.

One has to wonder why these advertisers (who say they stay out of politics can hardly contain the laughter) jumped in so fast?

What’s the cozy deal they have made? I can do without their name brand products. Besides, a lot of Johnson and Johnson products don’t work.
