Probably nearly everyone has heard by now of how athlete Michael Vick, just released from prison for engaging in the felonious crime of organizing and profiting from dog fighting, is seeking to rehabilitate himself and return to making big money. Vick not only exercised cruelty but was savagely torturing, beating, and even electrocuting his dogs. We don't have a window into Vick's soul BUT we can learn much about what the mentality and inhumanity of this sort of person really is. No one knew more about dogs, wolves, and canines than Jack London. He LIVED with them and probably understood them better than any other writer. This post is taken from Chaper 4 of "White Fang." Most of you have probably read the novel but it's worth reading again for its insight. Those who havn't read it, or who have forgotten it, will be rewarded greatly.

One of my favorite childhood books.
I remember that scene vividly.
Clinging Death
I thought this was going to be about the “Bitter-Clingers” trying to hold on to their health care plan or their life from the hands of the Obamao health plan.
But seriously, White Fang is a great book.
So he lived with a few dogs for a year and that makes him an authority?
hardly.
His work is classified as fiction because that’s what it is. Touchy feely fiction.
Not much difference between Vick and the poster who advocated poisoning dogs with antifreeze on another thread.
*Anybody* who intentionally inflicts prolonged suffering on an animal is evil.
I saw Vick on 60 Minutes on Sunday night. I couldn’t tell if he was really sorry for what he did.
Thanks for the site!

I agree, I don’t understand the apologists. Sure forgive him but let him do something out of the public eye. Do we need him in the NFL? I mean would the league implode without him?
I would support poisoning Michael Vick with antifreeze.
Michael Vick is a thug, plain and simple, and he will meet a thug’s end at some future point.
BINGO! I agree completely.
I agree and I do not think he has any remorse at all for the suffering he inflicted on those dogs. The only thing he is sorry about is getting caught.
But HEY, he plays good ball. Or, at least he did. So lots of "sportsmen" want to give him a pass and let him back in the game.
I have nothing but contempt for people like that.
Can you imagine how this A$$hole treats and/or relates to women or other family members?
By apologizing for him, they become partakers of his sins.
At least he would understand [but probably not own up to] the agony inflicted upon him.
Thank you.
A lot of people think I’m a b*tch for stating things like that.
Tough.
:)
“Can you imagine how this A$$hole treats and/or relates to women or other family members? “
How many idiot women lined up to date OJ Simpson after he was “acquitted”?
[answer: a lot]
There are people in this world who are apparently simply too stupid to be allowed out of the house alone.
Whoever hired Vicks is one of them.
That is another extremely valid point.
Just as serial murderers often start by killing animals, I think that it is entirely within the realm of possibility that the thrill this guy gets from inflicting pain on animals and watching animals forced to inflict pain on each other can only be magnified once he starts on real people.
I would not want anyone I know or love anywhere near him.
Yes. I thought America was way too dog-loving to accept this and so soon.
