you’ve had nothing constructive to say today

That's 'cause I've been too busy packing.

I'm moving to the wide open spaces of Central America. Very few people live there anymore, as 40-50 million of them now live here in the United States.

Perhaps, I can meet the "constructiveness quota" you've apparently assigned (only) to me if I tell everyone what I had for lunch or offer the group a potato salad recipe.

Please advise.

The big problem is, he [Charles Krautheimer] should have reasoned that way from the beginning. I really don’t think he has a grasp of us ‘common’ folks. A’course, no one inside the beltway does.

Yes. Limbaugh said the same thing about the "inside the beltway" mentality at the time Charles wrote his piece. The media was focussing on the most angry opponents and ignoring the fact that there was a groundswell of citizens very concerned about losing their current health care. Polls are showing that voters would rather have no change than the current legislation that has been proposed.

You never know with these criminals in office what the real truth is.

That's the statement of the day, Rodguy!

Sure can. Here’s my advice:

People who post potato salad recipes are at least informative. I mean, who doesn’t like potato salad?

Notice what they ARE NOT doing.

They ARE NOT holding grudges against other posters, they ARE NOT continuing feuds, they ARE NOT needling and bringing crap from other threads to this one.

And for THAT, I am grateful. I only hope I can count on you not to do the same. I believe I can. Your comments, other than those other, negative things, are highly welcome. I’m confident that EVERYONE on this thread agrees.

Glad I could help!

I like Charles, but at times he is too gentle about the Dem’s and their style. He wants no disruptions, but forgets that this is the dem strategy.

Demonize, demoralize, and demonstrate until your opponent caves......

After all, you are the abnormal one.............

I only hope I can count on you not to do the same. Ok, that was a double negative.

Let's say I hope you CAN do the same.

Smiles!

"The leftists are so rattled by the pushback from “ordinary people...”

They are indeed rattled. They have not seen this before(the majority of them. They always believed whatever they said would be dittoed by the media and the people (sheeple) would simply nod their collective heads in acquiescence and that was that. The big problem the liberals now have is the great silent majority has been awakened and are now, finally, aware of the power they have to bring about REAL and CONSTRUCTIVE change and not just change for the sake of change.

Sigh. Well, you know the old saying, don’t go away mad....

Still, I wish you would stay and do as I said. I really don’t see what’s so hard about that.

Another problem for the beltway boys and girls: they believe what they see on tv.

Thousands of citizens have actually gone to demonstrations and meetings this week, and have seen the signs brought by their neighbors and heard the quality of the protesting voices. Then they have gone home and watched their local or cable tv coverage of the events and realize that the media definitely does not air the actuality of the events.

For example, the crowd at the event in Baltimore county was attended by people dressed for a backyard barbecue, in a serious but upbeat mood. The homemade signs were pertinent, the chants were clever: “All we are saying///Is pay your own bills.”

The tv cameramen and studio producers for the evening news did not show the signs or the chants. They showed garble from the right, and demonstrations from the matching t-shirt pro-Obama folks. Anyone who had not been present and accepted what the tv ‘news’ program showed would have a very inadequate view of what actually had occurred.

The same thing with what happened inside the hall. Cherry-picking one questioner does not portray the tone of the entire audience. A couple of people shouted out, and it was no more disruptive than a child crying out in church. But the media wanted their viewers to believe that the crowds were insulting and out of control.

Thanks.

Counting the illegals is a huge job. To get even close to an accurate estimate you need info from someone who really has experience in the field.

I like James H. Walsh who is a former Federal Prosecutor,U.S. German Marshall Fund Scholar on Immigration and a recognized expert in the field.

Walsh appears to have done his work/research the hard way. He went out into the field and interviewed those who should know and compiled his stats from there.

In his book "Illegal aliens:Counting the Uncountable" he concludes the following. "My estimate of 38 million(I Used 40-50 million since this is circa 2005)illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is calculated, however, using a conservative annual rate of entry,(allowing for deaths and returns to their homelands)of three illegal aliens entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. My estimate includes apprehensions at the Southern Border(by far,the majority),at the Northern Border, along the Pacific,Atlantic, and Gulf of Mexico coasts, and at seaports and airports.

Taking the DHS average of 1.2 million apprehensions per year and multiplying it by 3 comes to 3.6 million illegal entries per year; then multiplying that number by 10 for the 1996-2005 period, my calculations come to 36 million illegal entries into the US. Add to this the approximately 2 million visa overstays during the same period, and the total is 38 million illegal aliens currently in the US.(once again as of 2005)

There is a deadline on when you can make any amount. Since I am already over 65, I have passed that deadline. It depends on the year you are born.

What?? I'm 67 and started getting SS at 62 but with my PERA income I got whacked over 3000.00 Fed tax. and still do. Am I missing something?

Agree. Charles is a great conservative writer and thinker, but the democrats/obama don't play by the gentlemen's debating society rules. They play by hardball rules these days. The "people" faught back on this issue and at least we're discussing some of the real problems inherent in a gov't takeover on the political round tables this morning. That wouldn't have happened with Charles' approach.
