A Harlem restaurant-supply store owner unleashed a round of shotgun blasts on a gang of four robbers Thursday afternoon, killing two of them, police said.
The shooting happened at about 3:10 p.m. at The Kaplan Brothers Blue Flame, at 523 West 125th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue, according to cops.
One man died at the scene and the another died at St. Lukes Hospital.
Residents said they were surprised at the robbery the store is not known as a cash business.
Detectives are still investigating.
c’mon .. yo know damned well these were honor students with wonderful smiles who lit up the room when they entered, were kind to their mothers, helped little old ladies cross the streets, and always returned their library books on time.
I vote: self-defense, not guilty.
The name Kaplan (aka Copeland, Caplin, Chaplin, Caplan) is Jewish. Shotguns are legal in NYC. However, it is, I believe, the only city in America where you need a license to own one.
***pistol grip 12 ga.***
An evil ASSAULT shotgun! With a regular grip and the same ammo the pellets would have fallen to the ground after stinging and bouncing off the perps giving them a warning not to do it again! ;-D
***All four of the thugs were hit, all arrested.***
Did they read the two dead their rights before arresting them?;-) Or did it fall on “deaf” ears! ;-D
They insisted upon their right to remain silent.
>semi automatic revolver,
Well, if you mean 1 trigger-pull = 1 shot (Provided there is live ammunition in the feeding device) then ALL revolvers are semi-automatic.
>bolt action machine gun
Hm, considering the “bolt” is a piece of the gun which houses the firing-bin and/or holds the round for chambering & ejection then all the machine-guns I know of have a bolt; however bolt-action usually refers to the manual load/ejection by the shooter... so a bolt-action machine-gun would have to have someone with REALLY, REALLY fast hands...
You need licenses to own shotguns in New Jersey, too. Rush Limbaugh tried to bring a gift gun (rifle or shotgun) to his residence in NYC and the paperwork needed was substantial.
He will probably be tried, but I hope he can get a VERY good lawyer, and that he DEMANDS a jury trial (of 12!). I cannot see any jury putting this man behind bars for defending himself and his store. Then after he is acquitted he could sue the city to get the gun laws changed??? [Wishful thinking... Prayers for this man, he’s going to have a rough time ahead of him.]
Well, that’s good to know... I hope he has all the right paperwork in order. I was thinking he was in for a heap-load of trouble for violating the gun control laws there...
Someone posted on another thread about this that shotguns are legal in New York, but he may need to be in possession of a license for it... So, if that’s the case (and I hope it is), please ignore my previous posting! The law should still be overturned though!
You need a permit to buy one in NJ. There is no licensing in NJ.
You can move into NJ or inherit your pistols and you are 100% legal, no paperwork required.
CORRECTION — it was on THIS thread that the info. was posted. I clicked too many links and haven’t had my caffeine yet! LOL
OK. But from what I understand, one would need a permit to buy ammunition in New Jersey, even pellets and BBs for a pellet or BB gun, correct? One of these days, I need to get around to actually applying for a permit. I know it’s also effectively impossible to get a concealed carry permit for most normal people in NJ.
You need a firearms purchaser ID to buy PISTOL ammunition in stores. You can buy whatever you want online. I'm not really sure about pellets/BBs but since NJ considers them to be guns, that's probably true.
If you have a clean record, you should apply for your FID. You fill out two forms, visit your local PD, get fingerprinted and then wait 30 days to 9 months(depends on how much your local pd violates the law) and then you're done for long guns. Pistol permits are one shot per and are good from 90 days from the day of issue(extendable an additional 90).
It seems worse than it is and it can be a real pain.
Carry permits are out unless you are a cop or armed car guard.
Hey, watch it. I kinda like my semi automatic revolver.
No, there were only two semi automatic revolvers ever designed.
>No, there were only two semi automatic revolvers ever designed.
That’s why I said if you’re defining “semi-automatic” as 1-trigger-pull = 1 shot so long as there are good rounds in the feeding device then all revolvers are semi-auto.
Now, obviously that isn’t the definition that you (and most of the rest of the world) are using. So, let me ask, what is the/your definition for semi-automatic?
Also, what two revolvers are you talking about which fit that definition?
When you pull the trigger on a revolver, you are the one who’s activating the loading device.[cylinder, pawl, trigger and cylinder lock] This is on a double action revolver. That same movement also fires the round which is the “double action”.
A single action requires you to not only load the round into postion but a second manual action has to fire the revolver.
A semi automatic uses the inertia of the first round to cock the hammer and ready the second round into postion.
There are only two working designs of a semi automatic revolver in existance. The first was made in the early 1900’s called a Webley-Fosbery. The second was made around ten or twenty years ago. It was called a Mateba. Check my profile page for a picture of Oleg Volk’s poster of Betty holding a Mateba.
