Peaceful Health Care Protest Planned
NBC26 ^

Posted on 08/12/2009 7:16:25 PM PDT by TaxPayer2000

A local conservative leader is taking a different approach on the fight against health care reform.

"We also are asking them to be courteous and respectful and just have a nice conversation," says Jim Steineke of the Fox Valley Initiative.

Steineke hopes to get the attention of Wisconsin Congressmen by holding protests at their offices on August 22nd.

But unlike the screaming and yelling that has been going on around the country at health care reform listening sessions, he hopes this approach will be more effective.

"I hope the elected officials start taking notice of all the people showing up and the people who don't want this legislation to pass."

Steineke says their message is getting partially lost in the heated battles that have been happening.

"I think in a way it does a disservice to people's opinions. But I understand where they're coming from."

He hopes in protest is peaceful, but doesn't know if tempers will stay calm at future listening sessions.

"I hope we can keep it a civil conversation, but a lot of that depends if people fell they're being hurt or not."

A spokesperson for Congressman Steve Kagen says no one will be at his offices to listen to the message of the protestors.

The rep says it will be on a Saturday and their offices are closed.

A local democratic leader says they are not planning to attend Steineke's protest, but are planning their own rally in the near future.

What really matters in these town hall meetings is people coming in armed with the facts.

I wish somebody in NH would have asked Obummer if he actually read and knows what is in the house healthcare bill. And depending on his answer the follow up question would be if he hadn’t read it then how in the name of everything holy can he speak out on something he does not know anything about or hasn’t read. Then how in hell does he know what is or is not in the bill.

Heck, Kagen could be there with a cast of thousands & still wouldn't be listening. At least he's not pretending to care.

Yes, a lot of middle class people are better informed about the health control proposals than the president or members of Congress. What we are seeing is the wheels starting to wobble on the Obama soul train express. I do think that the wheels will come off that train at some point over the next couple of years. At that point even some of his supporters in the state-controlled media will start to question his policies. This should provide many stories for posts here at FR.

“listening sessions”? I’m still catching up around here, but this is the second time I’ve heard this mentioned in regards to meetings here in Wisconsin. Who is supposed to be listening to whom? It’s clear the public knows more about this bill than our Reps. — I think they should be listening to US.

And although I wish this man the best of luck in keeping things “quiet” and “peaceful” I would warn him to be watchful of agent provocateurs in their midst — or outrightly against them (look for the union label — at least in regards to SEIU).

I would also warn him that there is only so much obfuscation, lying, and avoiding the average person can tolerate, and if he forces people to shove their emotions back inside where it can build, he doesn’t want to see what will happen to some people... THAT is when the TRUE ugliness would start. Let ‘em yell if they need to — ESPECIALLY when it is to get a Congressperson to quit peddling lies for the DNC.

I would rather our grandchildren look back and say something like, “Wow Grandma, you all were CRAZY back then, but I’m glad you put yourselves on the line and we still have good healthcare here” rather than say, “Grandma, if ONLY you had stopped this when you had the chance” as they march off to yet another day at the government owned and run “super”-market selling moldy day(s)-old bread, and Chinese imported fish.... and spending their nights hiding from the “Civilian Police Forces” as they scurry to Resistance meetings!

Excellent point — and one that will not be lost on those hearing about the protest either.

You know... I’m thinking the left is starting to see what American Pride & Passion is all about. This is REAL what is happening, and the politicians SHOULD be scared as H#ll! All one needs do is crack open a few history books to figure out what happens to tyrants & thieves — whether now or years from now they will get their comeuppance, and it won’t be pretty.

These people have forgotten we elected them.

They are OUR representatives.

They should listen to us. We do not have to listen to them especially when they lie or make statements they cannot back up with facts.

They work for us, not the other way around.

They better start waking up to that fact or they are gonna find themselves out of a job.

More term limits are needed around this country now.

I think they're terrified. I have never seen such panic dressed up as indifference in my life.

They have Obama whipping them with one hand, & voters slapping them with the other.

I agree in some respects. I never once had my mind changed by anybody screaming and yelling, but I have listened to calm, reasoned words and been profoundly affected. Remember the protests where groups would shut down a freeway or bridge? Now there’s a way to get the stranded motorists to listen. Did anyone say “Wow, look at the way they blocked traffic!!!! They must have a good point!!
