Sorry, my bad...
“Cherokees didnt want to be citizens, they wanted their own nation inside of America.”
Well, sweetheart, I have letters from those Cherokees that prove you wrong.
Another snip:
Boudinot and Bell (my grgrgrandfather) were leading advocates for the abolition of the tribal land system of the Indians. They and others wished to have the lands owned in severalty, which is ownership of real property by an individual as an individual; the same right to property as other Americans. They also championed the establishment of United States Courts in Indian Territory, and the abandonment of the tribal governments in favor of statehood.
And now, I’m done with this discussion. To deny the reality of the horror some people went through, does not help your cause, which I assume is the same as mine...STOP THE RACE BAITING...what happened to the Indian wasn’t because he was Indian, it was because he had something a corrupt government wanted...and history is repeating itself, except this time the chosen group to persecute is WHITEY.
Well, I’m part Cherokee so give me my nation. I’ll call it Texas. I’ve got a good idea for where the borders will be.
Then I guess the Supreme Court Case Cherokee Nation v. Georgia 30 U.S. 1 (1831) did not happen. They demanded we recognize the sovereignty of a Cherokee nation in the United States. Guess these Cherokees must have held the minority view point
“Well, Im part Cherokee so give me my nation. Ill call it Texas.”
lol..Richard, did you know the Cherokee settled 3 counties in Texas (with Mexico’s blessing because their people didn’t want anything to do with that untamed, wild land!) before white settlers? Sam Houston promised them the land forever for covering his backside from the Mexicans coming in to steal what they had established. (The Mexicans only wanted what someone else had worked to produce...sound familiar??) When Texas became a state, the feds renigged on the agreement.

Again, you are picking and choosing and mixing a lot of history. Yes, they won the case for sovereignty...for all the good it did. And YES, The Ridge party was the ‘minority’, and they were ASSASSINATED by other Cherokees (the Pins) for it!
My ancestors have NEVER maltreated a native American.
I have to admit, though, my ancestors might have maltreated some white englishers during the Viking Raids on England.
I am a decent of Myles Standish and I do not apologize for anything that my blessed ancestors did.
I knew Houston was friendly with the Indians, and tried to keep Texas more along the coastline, but didn't know that he'd promised three counties to the Cherokees.
The white man has never committed a sin that any other race hasn't committed. It's the good things that the white race has done that makes it unique.
Now we have to apologize for calling the Indians (which is what they call themselves) stupid names like “Native Peoples.”
Isn’t it time for a senate recess?
well said
well said correcting those who have no clue about history
as far as I am concerned the natives is that native
maybe some of these folk should go to pine ridge etc and see how well those indians are doing
or how the Sioux refuse money for the black hills
one thing being proud of this country it is another ignoring what happeend
what the liberals forget is that not one rebel flag flew killing the natives
it was the natives which sided with the confederacy
the last lot to give up were the cherokee and they are a proud nation
“So it was your Germanic ancestors who helped destroy ancient civilization which thrust Europe into the Dark Ages and allowed Islam to spread.”
Yup, that would be them. I mean, why not? Rome was begging for it. :)
“what the liberals forget is that not one rebel flag flew killing the natives it was the natives which sided with the confederacy the last lot to give up were the cherokee and they are a proud nation.”
All true.
thats it
I’m from England and you viking should give me a big sorry
you put my people into slavery (yes not just blacks were slaves then I want a sorry from the Romans and their part of slavery
sarc off
evrey race has been wrong and mistreated another the lesson is to learn form it and not keep harping on about what did happen many years ago still expecting handouts
shame isn’t it how the NY north east NEA do not teach this in schools instead they say the rebel flag is this or that
well no rebel flag flew over the killings of indians and yes the first flag the Democratic KKK flew was guess what ?
clue
it wasn’t the stars or bars or the rebel flag
“well no rebel flag flew over the killings of indians and yes the first flag the Democratic KKK flew was guess what?”
Uh, that would be the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory.
But, seriously, this whole thing about owing the Indians because they lost the war of expansion is getting so old. The tribes did the same thing to each other. (For instance, why do you think the Crow hated the Sioux so much? It’s because the Sioux waged war on the Crow and pushed the Crow out of their traditional lands.)
