On Saturday August 8, 2009 my wife, children, and I attended a town hall meeting held by US Congressman John Adler, DEMOCRAT, Representative for New Jersey 3rd District. We arrived shortly after the meeting began, signed in, and found seats in the back of the assembly room, which was roughly the size of a gym. Few seats remained empty and people lined the perimeter walls. Essentially it was standing room only.
Adler was speaking when we walked in and was touting what he saw as problems with the current health system. I heard him offer slight praise for health systems in other countries, at which point a chorus of booing erupted. Adler quickly noted that the United States still has the best health care system in the world and the booing turned to applause.
Several times throughout the meeting Adler made it clear that he was OPPOSED to the health care bill and would vote AGAINST it.
He stated that he was against offering health care to illegal immigrants.
He stated that he thinks the health care bill would bankrupt the United States.
He stated that he was opposed to TARP but was not around to vote against it and that he voted against additional funding earlier this year. He also stated that he thinks business should be allowed to fail.
At the end of his comments, which took about 20 minutes, the audience was asked to line up to ask him questions. Many people lined up to ask questions and Adler took time to give direct and complete answers. Only 1 hour was allotted for the meeting, and as a result, several people did not get to ask a question. One person expressed his displeasure by shouting at Adler and begging him to stay longer. When finally given an opportunity to speak at the microphone, this person noted that he would gladly give a little more money if it meant health care would be provided to all Americans, to which someone shouted, No one is stopping you from giving more!
Also in line was an elderly woman who said that she whatever is done, should be done in a slow, thoughtful and fiscally sound manner. Then she held up a book of COMMON SENSE and said that everyone in the room should read that book. Many people applauded.
There were just a few outbursts. A single police officer was present. The only time he moved around was to ask the person that was shouting for more time to settle down. One man appeared very distressed and repeatedly snapped out loud for all of those booing to shut up. A few of those who were booing within earshot turned and told him to shut up. Other than that it was an orderly meeting.
Someone in line proclaimed that he had read the entire bill and cited word for word from a section in the bill that would exclude people with special needs. Adler appeared stunned at what was read, stated he was not aware of that section, and then restated that he would vote AGAINST the bill.
Adler had another town hall meeting to attend in Riverside, NJ, but he stayed later than the appointed time and talked face to face to many people as he slowly made his way to the exit.
Troll cleanup in Aisle 9.
NJ like other states is odd. One place is hell on earth and you drive 20 miles and you are ina beautiful spot.
In NJ, the household avg income is among the highest in the US or was but they vote in the some of the worst vermin to tax the citizens to death.
Thank you for this post. And the detailed report. He is my congress critter. I posted it on Face Book. We’ll see if he is to be trusted on this one or just using it as a bargaining chip.
Don’t forget the tar and feathers. ;-)
Adler’s new to the district formerly held for a long time by Republican Saxton, I believe - the closest we’ll have to a Blue Dog in NJ - let’s hope Blues in other parts of the country get the message as well as he seems to have...(probably doesn’t hurt that ‘pub Christie is doing as well as he is going into November)......
If I may make a suggestion, since this guy is a rat and more vulnerable to party pressure on this issue, I urge you and other like-minded individuals in your district to stay on him.
I’m floored.
But, seeing is believing, we’ll see how he votes.
Thanks for the ping.
Wow. BUMP for great FReporting. Kudos to John Adler.
Sounds good. Is this a conservative district? Is this guy one of those blue dogs?
We will next year. Until then she can run but she can not hide.
Thanks!
He’s a politician from Jersey so he speaks out of both sides of his mouth and his ass at the same time.
A leak in the dyke, perhaps ???
Maybe more Dems to come ???
Here is my problem folks. I need to back up all these list and post I see naming pages and lines ( for ex. Pg 354 Sec 1177) Where EXACTLY are people getting this information?
There are at least 3 separate health care bills out there. There is a list circulating around the net with maybe 90 items citing page and line , very scary things that are in the bill ( again what bill) I haven’t been able to find any of these citations.
I can go to my town meeting and say “oh yea Pg 354 Sec 1177 says government will restrict enrollment of special needs people” I need to see the document that supposedly came from .
I’m not being skeptical as much as wanting to be sure we can back up EVERY POINT WE MAKE WITH FACTS.
IF THE GOVERNMENT RUNS IT , IT WILL BE BASED ON WHO YOU KNOW AND NOT HOW SICK THE CHILD ACTUALLY IS
This is my district. Last week I and several of my neighbors who see this bill for the disaster it is, called his offices locally and in Washington and left a message saying he could expect NOT to be returning to Washington should he vote yes on this bill. At the time I called the person I spoke to in his Toms River Office and also in Washington said he was undecided as to how he would vote.
According to this story he has now decided to vote against the legislation. However the pressure needs to be kept on this man and all the others involved in the voting so they realize we are NOT going away.
“Any farms down there? South Jersey supposedly has the best tomatoes in the world”
South Jersey DOES have the best tomatoes in the world!!! So sweet you can just eat them right off the vine.
Nazi Pelousy will have a little chat with him, and offer him something he will really, really want. He will dutifully fall in line with the rest of her flock of sheep.
As much as I would love to give him credit for saying all the right things...
..it may be JUST THAT....he's saying all the right things.
Sadly, through past experiences, they say one thing to placate us....
..then vote the opposite.
We cannot afford to rest on our laurels, or trustingly accept their word anymore.
Too much is at stake!
trust democrats at your own peril.
