Lawmakers battled Sunday over whether demonstrations against health care reform legislation at town hall meetings across the country are real or contrived.
One prominent Democrat continued to assert that scenes in which protesters are interrupting and shouting at reform proponents are "clearly being orchestrated," while the top Senate Republican said it's "absurd" for Democrats to criticize members of the public for being organized.
The fresh round of debate over the heated summertime sessions comes after a meeting in Des Moines with Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin was interrupted several times by critics in the audience. He drew outrage Saturday when he told the crowd there is a "nationally coordinated effort" to disrupt the town halls.
"How dare you claim that I'm part of a conspiracy," one man yelled, claiming he sent himself to the meeting.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, Ky., told "FOX News Sunday" that it's not clear who's organized and who's not but that Democrats' efforts to "demonize" the protesters reflect weak spots in the substance of their plan.
"I think attacking citizens in our country for expressing their opinions about an issue of this magnitude may indicate some weakness in their position on the merits," McConnell said. "And I also think it's particularly absurd for the Democrats, who have over an $8 million e-mail list over at the DNC called Organize America, to be criticizing citizens for being organized."
He said concerns over how the plan will be paid for are probably triggering a lot of the passion and tempers at the meetings, and predicted the tension will not slacken -- with dozens of other town hall meetings scheduled throughout the month of August.
However, McConnell said neither side should be trying to disrupt the meetings. Rather, he said they should be focusing on the issues.

“Orchestrated”?
So what?
Do those rough and biased comments that the left has never been and IS NOT orchestrated by OBAMA’s staff and advisers?!
Do those “accurate” analysts assume that OBAMA’s opponents(”evil conservatives” in their mind)have no personnal and interesting thoughts which are worth sharing publicly with others?
Two points:
My wife noted that Nostradamus (for those who place any credibility in his predictions) predicted that we would be destroyed by a man in a turban. There is a picture of Obama (probably when he was in school in Indonesia) wearing a turban. Coincidence??
Also, here’s a good question that NO ONE has asked Obama - he wants DeathCare passed in 4 weeks, yet it took him 6 months to select a dog - why??
FOR THOSE NOT YET GOING TO THE TOWN HALL SESSIONS, HERE ARE A FEW ITEMS TO GET YOU OUT FROM IN FRONT OF THAT MIND-BENDING BOOB TUBE:

REALLY HARD!

Where is your proof? You have made an accusation. Show us the proof.
Ah but that the rub, neither the Democrats, nor their toadies in the Media, can provide even 1 single shred of proof to back up these accusations.
The democrats are winning this arguement concerning healthcare.
They have succeeded in having the protesters comments not being discussed to having how the protesters got to thw protest.
People need to keep focused on the issue and it isn’t how the protesters got to the meetings.
So what if they are orchestrated or not, are the pols listening?
We must stop this!!! Arguing over the obvious is ridiculous and fruitless! So what if there are organized groups at the protests? So what if there is a nationally organized effort? They are correct, it is a conspiracy, it is getting organized and it is an effort to stop this rampant government takeover. Every person at these rallys should show up with their pay stubs, showing the outrageous amount of taxes a family pays, this should be considered a “ticket” to the event.
“Lawmakers battled Sunday over whether demonstrations against health care reform legislation at town hall meetings across the country are real or contrived.”
Does it really matter if most people believe they are real or contrived? It only matters if it gives pause to congressional and senatorial blue dogs. The Dems can propagandize this all they want, but the Blue dogs know damn well you can’t stage this kind of anger among people who clearly aren’t part of an Acorn like conservative group. Those town hall protestors aren’t just going to vote against the blue dogs, they are going to organize, work, and contribute money to the the defeat of any Dem who votes for this health care reform nightmare.
I have been wondering how long it will takes for blacks in “urban areas” to realize that they will be on the short end of the government “stick” when the limits on “who gets treated for what” comes down on them.
Will we see gang members shot in the mean streets quickly treated? How about drug users who have overdosed, the winos, the crack babies, and the elderly matriarchs with diabetes?
I wish some of the more responsible black leaders would raise these questions when talking to the ghetto gangs.

Don’t the Congresscritters even know how to implement a simple POLL?
What a quaint idea — reflect your constituents’ wishes.
The usual whining accusations of “racism” will be heard if this happens. “No fair! Blacks are getting slower and sparser care than Whites!”
I tried to catch the news this morning before heading for Church and expected to see some stories on the uproar at the Town Hall meetings this week. I caught some of David Gregory on Meet the Press and Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. Both programs were a disappointment. You would think with all the noise Americans are making at these Town Halls, the heads of the news departments might just send someone out to a gathering or two, locate a well spoken, informed person who is protesting the Healthcare Act H.R. 3200 and ask them what in this bill is bothering them.
Both Gregory’s panel and Wallace’s panel had plenty to say about how the protests were hurting either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, but neither seemed to want to find out why the people protesting were actually so upset. Are there no investigative reporters anymore?
You could equate this kind of journalism to a film critic going to a theater and reporting on the emotions of the audience- they laughed, they cried, they cheered, but saying nothing about story or content of the film. This doesn’t give a person considering viewing a film any idea if their money would be well spent in seeing it. This kind of journalistic reporting doesn’t educate the American people on the quality of job their Congressman is doing.
I’ve gotten emails with sections of this bill noted that were really scary. When dealing with a Congress that includes members who have put their fingers in banks and financial institutions and ruined them plus forced shareholders in the auto industry to lose their life savings- why shouldn’t the average tax paying American have qualms about these same people taking over their health care? Not to mention that many in Congress are considered tax evading criminals themselves, along with members who seem to get “special loans” and favors from the very institutions they legislate over. These “Congressional Crooks” stay in power and never even get their hands slapped. How can the American people trust these “lawmakers”?
There has been a lot of comments made regarding how the members of Congress have not read this bill in its’ entirety. Again I ask.. Why not send a reporter to these meetings, ask who at the meeting has read the bill and what their objections seem to be? Then report those findings instead of reporting about the “angry mobs” at the event.
This is the news coverage we want. I think the American people would prefer to hear what kind of performance their elected officials are giving them rather than if Paula Abdul will be returning to American Idol.
