Rachel Maddow spent 40 minutes of her show trying to discredit people who don’t like the Obama trillion-dollar socialized medicine plan. Not a single word of analysis, only ad hominem attacks on citizen dissenters as mobsters and proto-nazis. But this is what leftists always do — target the messenger, discredit the opponent. As Lenin said: for progressives the object of a political debate is not to refute your opponent but to wipe him from the face of the earth. I never met a leftist who didn’t follow this prescription.

Eh, people on both sides do this. On this site, for instance, Libs are dismissed en masse as "Obamabots," and pictures are regularly posted of Obama smoking a cigarette, or photoshopped images of Dems in front of a banner saying "Dishonesty in Leadership." Is this really adding to the discourse? Or do they simply "target the messenger [and] discredit the opponent"?

It's done by everyone because it's effective rhetoric. We should criticize it sharply, but we shouldn't pretend we're innocent of this type of dismissal of the messenger.

Maddow and other liberals view the vast majority of Americans as ignorant rubes and a dirty rabble. When ordinary citizens are vocally saying no to socialism, liberals can only conclude that they are too dumb to do this on their own and they must be dupes of talk radio, insurance companies etc. Liberalism is elitism to the core. Obama was perfectly serious when he commented about those “bitter people clinging to their guns and religion” because he holds middle America in contempt and disdain.

First of all, Maddow has an agenda. She has never claimed to be fair or unbiased. She is an atheistic homosexual, and she despises anything that smacks of religion. From her point of view, all theists should be locked up in an asylum. Her religion is liberalism, and she is on an unholy crusade to destroy conservatism and traditional values. In that sense, she is a perfect match of MSNBC. I would take everything that she says with a grain of salt.
