I tend to doubt this report. I can’t believe Israel would have struck a blow at a time of Iranian civil insurection. It could have had the effect of solidifying Iranian nationalism. Iranians may want freedom, but they by and large do not like Israel.
but they by and large do not like Israel.
The reaction wouldn't be any different had they be attacked by any other nation.
And Iranian (popular, not the regime and it's supporters) animosity towards Israel is way overestimated. Iran and Israel were in close cooperation for almost 30 years on every level of culture, politics and security issues. There is a very proud Iranian Jewish community in Israel which reaches Iranians also via Persian-language Radio Programs. Indeed, whatever the opinion on Israel or Jews, the average Iranian HATES Palestinians at least just as much. They see that the regime is more interested in Arab "Palestine" than the plight of it's own citizens.
The only credence I can give it would be if Israel wanted to test what happens when US permission is asked for at a time they have no intention of using or abiding by it. When they do strike, I’d expect no permission to be requested and if requested, then no “permission” to be offered.
I agree.
