McCartney Croons Over Michelle Obama

Is Paul McCartney secretly a Dittohead?

The 60,000 fans attending a recent concert at FedExField in Baltimore must have thought so.

The former Beatle dedicated the performance of the song he co-wrote with John Lennon, “Michelle,” to the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.

“I love you, I love you, I love you. That's all I want to say,” McCartney crooned following his dedication.

Long before the McCartney fawning, though, while her husband was still a candidate radio talk show host extraordinaire Rush Limbaugh gave Mrs. Obama the moniker “Michelle, My Belle,” a take off on the Fab Four tune.

Being part of the entertainment biz, McCartney predictably was a backer of Michelle’s spouse during the 2008 campaign and even told People magazine he wanted to sing to “Michelle” someday.

The first lady was not present to hear the McCartney serenade because she and the president were away on one of their multiple vacations, this time at Camp David.

An unsubstantiated rumor is floating around that when a recording of the concert performance is played backwards, it mysteriously repeats the words, “El Rushbo, El Rushbo, El Rushbo.”

Well first of all the concert was in Washington, DC at the home of the (shaking head shamefully) Washington Deadskins, FedEx Field, not in Baltimore. Lil’Freeper and me were there.

Secondly, I’m not sure fawning is the right word. He just mentioned that someone named Michelle lived nearby.

Thirdly, the next song he played was “Mrs. Vanderbilt” with its chorus of “Ho, Hey Ho”.

Just sayin’.

Now that's funny right there.

Perhaps he could sing “Mull of Kenya” to her husband.

Belated reply: I think both McCartney and Lennon declined after the split, but Mac more so than Lennon. To simplify matters, Lennon was the “balls” and “soul” of the band, and McCartney was the creative melodist. Separated, Mac became shallow and banal, and Lennon's pretentiousness and messianism was unchecked. But because Lennon had the balls and the soul, his post-Beatles music was better, even if somewhat primitive and un-elegant and occasionally embarrassing.

1. I was at the concert - it looked sold-out to me.
2. The concert was really good.
3. He played for 3 hrs - 2 1/2 hrs of which was without a break.
4. I did not like the Michelle Obama/Michelle tribute either but it may have been a jesture for being in a foriegn capital.
5. If you saw Letterman last month you’d see he still draws a huge crown wherever he goes (on a whim).
6. How many artists ever can play >30 songs at a concert and still only have only played 10% of the great music you were involved in writing/playing on?

Let me have Freepers....
