I would have hoped that before they went public with this, they would have obtained another birth certificate from the same area and era for comparison, and that some effort would have been made to verify authenticity.
There was no point in making this public until they were sure it was real.

If you had read the WND article, you would see that they DID compare it to another certificate from the same period and THEY MATCHED. And both were signed by E.F. Lavender!

I agree with what you are saying here.
I am especially disappointed in one aspect of the WND article. They state,
"WND was able to obtain other birth certificates from Kenya for purposes of comparison, and the form of the documents appear to be identical. "
OK WND, were these comparison certificates from BEFORE or AFTER dec 12th 1964? To my mind the biggest hole in this document is that it says "REPUBLIC OF KENYA" on both the document heading AND official seal, 10 months before Kenya became the "republic of Kenya".
If WND can show us (image please!) a document before Dec 12th 1964 that has "Republic of Kenya" headings and seal, then the chances of this document being authentic jump dramatically.
I am skeptical they can do so. Kenya was very careful not to release postage stamps that said REPUBLIC OF KENYA until exactly the day when the December 1964 constitutional amendments making it so passed.
If they can't find a document that has these features, they should say so! Was the comparison document before or after this date? It's very important and disappointing they omit this key fact.
