I think another story has been posted about this event. I don't remember the picnic basket, though.

PETA is now organizing a protest against this man, because all the bear wanted was a bite to eat. He meant no harm to the homeowner. /s

Alternate 00 buckshot and slugs for bears at close range.

This is a great argument for allowing higher capacity shotgun tubes.

Cripes...six shots? What was he using? 6 shot?? I’m surprised he could load that many in without the bear not being flaming pissed after getting peppered.

Maybe this will teach the guy to keep a box of double ought handy.

A bear with six holes bleeding out on the living room floor has got to make a real mess. Of course, it’s probably nothing compared to the mess in the guy’s skivvies.

Guy needs bigger shot size or a larger gauge.

I bet it made a noise in the house - and a mess. But at least he had SOMETHING on hand to deal with the bear, and he's better off than I would be because all I have is a .45 ACP pistol by the side of the bed. My shotguns are in the safe.

"I shot him once with the gun and that didn't bother him" skinner explained. "I put a third shot into his mid section and he was still growling and roaring" said Skinner. It took three more shots to finally put the bear down.

Sounds like he wasn't loaded for bear!

"Birdseed is often times the first thing that bears get in trouble with," Churchill said, "and that starts the vicious cycle of them getting too comfortable with humans."

Every early Winter and early Spring we have problems with bears. They destroy our bird feeders and run off with the suet cake feeders. We keep the bird seed in the cellar in metal cans.

Friends learned the hard way to not keep the bird seed in metal cans on the porch. Not only do they open and eat the seed, they rip up the screen door and door trying to get in.

Smart people don't sleep with their windows open where bears live. Feeding the bears could be your body!

Well, I’m wondering about the carcass. I don’t suppose the man is allowed to have it butchered and put it up in the freezer? There’s a lot of meat on a bear.
