According to a Japanese news agency, Toyota is pulling up stakes at its Fremont, Calif., factory, known as NUMMI. This is the plant that was jointly run by Toyota and GM before GMs bankruptcy filing this summer. The Detroit-based automaker decided NUMMI where it built the Pontiac Vibe alongside the Toytoa Matrix and Corolla was not integral to its future. NUMMI employs 4,700 people and is the only U.S. Toyota plant with UAW employees.

DAMN I thought that the headline said “Toyota to Liquidate California”, NUTS!
Open borders also created tens of millions of welfare bandwagon jumpers aka illegal aliens.
Very nice car though. A friend of mine has one. He loves it; fuel efficient and dependable.
Why in the name of God would Toyota build a plant in Kalifornia in the first place??? Unions, whacko regulations, environmental nuts, taxes....what were they thinking??
This sends a message loud and clean to the UAW, Obama and the Rat’s how forign investors feel about CARD CHECK EFAC.

Your right about the innocent people that get the short end of this...but makes me wonder how many of them voted for the loons in CA gov’t that has brought this about.
Congressional blackmail?
Nobody is happy about losing jobs but when the unions want to jam their way down all workings American’s backside then I take a little joy at giving the UAW a setback.
Toyota is a very strong and viable employer in many other plants in the USA.
They didn’t build it. It used to be a GM plant from WAY back. GM closed it in the 80’s.
I imagine that the only reason it was picked up by Toyota was that they got it for a song and that it already had much of the tooling needed to produce cars.
Fremont, CA
2006 elections: In the gubernatorial race, California re-elected incumbent Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger over Democrat Phil Angelides, with 55.8% of the vote. For Senate, the state re-elected Democrat Dianne Feinstein over Dick Mountjoy, with 59.7% of the ballot.
Presidential politics: Fremont is in Alameda County, which voted Democratic in the last two presidential elections. According to unofficial vote totals for 2004, Bush received 115,749 votes and John Kerry received 360,953 votes.
In the November 2000 election, Alameda County strongly supported Al Gore. Countywide, 119,279 people voted for Bush and 342,889 voted for Gore. Nader received 27,499 votes.
Well, they hoped for change . . .
“Bad for California...”
The company I am employed at recently closed our manufacturing plant in southern California. Our offices are still there, but it just got to expensive to manufacture in California. Although the higher wages didn’t help, it was the insane amount of regulations that helped tip the scale. Most of those jobs are now in Mexico. Our CEO has fought, begged and pleaded with customers and suppliers to keep our jobs in the states. You would think our various governments would try to help him, but they really don’t, they just make it harder to do business. The rest of the USA needs to take a good, hard look at California. That is where the country is heading. We always hear a lot about the greedy, mean business man. My boss is a good man. He is a Vet, and he truly believes in America. He pays me well above average wages, I have a health plan that I pay much less for than most people. He is very generous with bonuses. My family lives very well because of this mans business. All he has ever asked of me is to show up for work and give him an honest days work. That is more than fair. I know we have some greedy bastards out there. But, I also believe we have a lot people like my boss. He wants to keep jobs here. But, at the end of the day he has to turn a profit. The various governments and the liberals need to remember that. Because unlike welfare checks and social programs, my boss gives paychecks and a way to pull yourself up. Please don’t keep trying to kill that.-—JM
On the bright side, this should reduce California’s carbon footprint.
CAP AND TRADE WILL KILL THE REST OF THE GOOD JOBS IN THE USA. Lets send them to Mexico, China, India. etc.
American’s will just be burger flippers at Micky D’s.
