A New York Times article on Sunday discussed the debate over whether more and more potent types of cannabis affect the levels of addiction to the drug. This particular issue has become part of the larger debate over whether marijuana should be legalized or decriminalized.
Antidrug activists say that if the drug is legalized, more people will use it and addiction levels, made worse by the increased potency, will rise too. Legalization advocates note that pot addiction is not nearly as destructive as, say, abuse of alcohol. What would be the effect of legalization or decriminalization on marijuana abuse and addiction?

You said — Here you go ladies and gets. The epitome of a worthless brain dead argument.
—
Ahhh..., the argument of a lawbreaker..., sounds familiar...
You said — Apparently smart people abuse the comma.

Much preferable to one’s brain on drugs... :-)
I love it when one has nothing left to say except to complain about the LOLs and the smileys... LOL... :-)
Same here. Another of my favorites besides the Golden Rule, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Cheers!
The entire proposition about this thread is so simple that you miss it. It’s simply that people are going to keep these illegal drugs “illegal” and those pothead (and/or others, like crackhead and heroin users) who use illegal drugs will be convicted of breaking the law.
And as I said, it seems that there are a whole lot of potheads on this thread — very intent on changing my mind and that proposition...
It doesn’t have to be any more complex than that.
You said — Your analysis, simple and straightforward as it is, is approximately a mile over the head of some posters.

I guess it didn’t get simple enough... potheads are criminals breaking the law... and most conservatives favor putting criminals in jail... :-)
Got that right.
Yes.
Cheetoes.
How many of them don't care if it corrupts the constitution and allows the federal government to exercise powers not granted to it in order to get that?
I like the phrase, “Let he who is a lawbreaker be thrown into jail...”
How much will you like it when the federal government uses the same New Deal Commerce Clause that makes potheads lawbreakers to make gun owners lawbreakers? You'll give up everything just to keep pot illegal, because nothing else matters to you except that.
Proof positive
Ahh... the “Bill of Rights” for potheads, now? LOL...
Are we gonna have a new Constitutional Convention to write in the protections into the Bill of Rights for potheads?
Cheetoes.
Yea... the orange fingers are a dead give-a-way!
You don't give a rat's ass about what went on in the last one. Why would you care if there's going to be another one?
Oh, I support the first Bill of Rights, I just don’t support a Bill of Rights for potheads/criminals.... :-)
Then why are you in favor of letting the federal government violate the 10th Amendment? What you say you support doesn't line up with what you say you want.
Probably worth repeating... I happen to know quite a few people that fit your description.
I've always been conflicted on this issue. I smoked once or twice in High School... but, my Dad came down HARD on me, and scared me enough that I didn't touch it again until after college. In hindsight, I'm VERY thankful. Because I have seen very few kids who successfully navigate college while smoking dope..and, I've seen a whole bunch who flunked out because of it.
My "post-graduation pot period" lasted only about 6 months... I quit for 2 reasons:
1) The woman I wanted to marry hated it, and
2) The company I worked for began testing it's workers.
I decided to just stick to alcohol as my socially more or less acceptable drug.
I would agree that, in most visible ways, alcohol is worse than pot. About the only way I'd say alcohol is better is: There is a price to pay when you over-indulge... so, it becomes somewhat self-limiting (for most people).
From what I've seen in my own life, pot is FAR MORE destructive for young people... as it just kills memory and learning. I have no scientific data backing this claim... only personal observation. Booze can mess up young folk too... but, in different ways.
For the good of society, I'd rather keep pot illegal.
However, I also do believe liberty and freedom. Sometimes, we have to trust people to make their own decisions, even when we know they will probably be bad ones. To be honest, I think any conservative would have to admit that our legal fight against pot has been futile. It's expensive... it's locks up far to many people (making themless productive even that potheads), and it has given government another reason to be overly intrusive in our lives.
I think, it's time that we consider another way. Make it legal, tax it, run education campaigns against it's use, Allow ANY private company that wants pot-free workers to randomly test, and toughen the laws regarding public abuses while high (ie: driving, fighting, etc.. ).
Personally, I believe private enterprise could do a better job controlling pot use than the police can.
I support the Defense of Marriage Act, too..., and I would propose that the Federal Government make illegal any marriage other than a man to a woman.
Defense of Marriage Act

And I would propose that the Federal Government outlaw the killing of kids by their parents, too, forcing all the states to make it illegal for parents to kill their kids (50 million kids killed by parents thus far in the various states).
Sorry, I don’t support keeping criminals/potheads out of jail...
