Bad news for the unemployed, Texas' unemployment fund will be empty by next week.
People who have been out of work for 59-weeks or more and are eligible for the additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits are the only ones who will be affected.
That amounts to about 15-thousand people statewide. Those 15,000 in the extended benefits program will not get a check until the money comes back from the department of labor.
The Texas Workforce Commission's has already taken out interest-free loans from the Department of Labor to keep paying the regular unemployment insurance.
Bottom line, if you're one of the 822,000 Texans claiming unemployment, just hang in there.
7.5 is statewide. Depending upon your area it maybe much higher. Here are a few counties in East Texas which could be considered in the Piney Woods areas and along the Sabine River:
June Numbers:
Angelina, 9.1; Houston, 9.7; Jasper, 10.5; Nacogdoches, 7.1; Newton, 11.5; Polk, 9.7; Sabine, 15.2; San Augustine, 10.6; San Jacinto, 9.6; Shelby, 7.4; Trinity, 8.7; Tyler, 10.2.
I didn’t realize that.
Was just reading about Ohio’s numbers...None of this is good.
Looks like some of those counties are competing with us. Sheesh...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. (Emphysema) and employers don’t want to hire a “lunger”
However I am drawing my last unemployment check tomorrow and am going to end up on disability.
The unemployment issue greatly affects many people however I do understand it can be abused and many do just that however many of us need it and actually make a full time effort to get off of it.
Thanks for explaining the COPD, Dov. I just had not heard emphysema referred to as that before.
Wife #1 (div. in ‘69) has had it for years and requires the oxygen bottle all the time. She was able to work until about age 62, although the last couple of years were part time. She quickly got Medicaid assistance then and now SS since turning 65 this year.
I hope you are able to get some financial assistance, Dov, as I had a gr-father who also had the ailment.
Me too. I'm still going. I was there visiting friends last week and scouting around. I even went shooting for the first time. What an awesome state. I felt so free when I was there. The sun is shining every morning when you wake up. I can't wait to move there.
Thank you sir. Enough said lets hope COPD will become a thing of the past. It is hereditary so if you have kids with the ex, watch over the kids
Feel free to explain your question since my initial comment was very clear.
What part of the comment don't you understand?
At what point does receiving unemployment become welfare in your opinion?
california has een drawing on the Federal Unemployment fund for some time.
You bet...Whats that saying? As California goes.....
Certainly 59 weeks does.
So it seems you’re suggesting everyone that has been receiving unemployment less than that period is not considered welfare.
OK.
Here’s the genius of Rick Perry. He’s gonna ask the Fed’s to bail Texas out! Who would have ever thought of that? He sure does have great hair.
Tell ya the truth, I never trusted that guy. Remember this?
How many Christian centers did he fly into to lay the first brick?

Plano, TX: “Officials lay bricks in symbolic start for
Muslim center”
Dallas Morning News June 14, 2005
PLANO The Ismaili Muslim community announced Tuesday that it is building a $6.5 million worship and community center in Plano, where it has found a warm welcome.
Gov. Rick Perry flew in to lay the first ceremonial brick for the center’s foundation.
No, I think if you have been on unemployment for a year you have gone into welfare status.
Um, probably ZERO. The bad thing is our choice for Gov. is going to be Perry, Kay Bailey or a Democrat. Two RINO’s or a Rat. Not much choice.
If job loses continue, it’ll be quite interesting when unemployment benefits comes to an end for hundreds of thousands receiving that benefit. Not a real pretty sight.
They need to find a job.
