World May Back Iran Op As Part Of Deal
Jerusalem Post ^ | 16 July 2009 | JPost Staff

A deal taking shape between Israel and Western leaders will facilitate international support for an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities in exchange for concessions in peace negotiations with the Palestinians and Arab neighbors, The Times reported Thursday.

According to one British official quoted by the paper, such an understanding could allow an Israeli attack "within the year."

I know many countries in the ME realize the threat potential of the Iranian regime, but I'll believe this when I see it. With all the recent activities of the IDF air and naval forces, plus the testing of Iron Dome.....one has to wonder.

That’s fair. Anti-Semitic leaders in the West are happy as long as Israel is facing a deadly danger. If we’re going to let Israel eliminate the Iranian threat, we have to insist on concessions to Hamas and Hezbollah. That way we can replace nukes with a less dramatic but equally lethal nearby enemy.

Arab states have enough sense to realize that a nuclear armed Iran is not a good thing. It’s a win-win for Arab states, a disarmed Iran and Israel’s concessions to the Palestinians.

It's a win-win-win for Arabs. Israel will take all the heat for doing what must be done to not only protect Israel, but Saudi Arabia and all the other worthless Arab states. Arabs, as they have done for generations, continue to prove that they are spineless cowards....

I either believe this interpretation OR that there is a giant game of chicken going on with respect to Iran. All these wars and rumors of wars may be a deliberate psyops campaign to get Iran to cry “uncle”. I’d almost favor the latter explanation, not because it’s necessarily the right policy, but more because it’s consistent with the way that our current world “leaders” think.

If Iran isn't a threat, the "west" shouldn't back Israel at all. If Iran is a threat, the "west", should be aiding Israel, not holding out permission.

Don't know if the US is still part of the "west" since that implies support for democratic governments and allies, but the same applies to us.

Israel need not care about the “world”. Israel needs only to care about Israel!

This is a joke.

“in exchange for international backing for an Israeli operation in Iran”

We’ll let you risk your blood and treasure to take out these nukes that threaten all of us and in exchange we’ll give you our okay and demand concessions.

F*** you.

Iran is NOT EVER going to cry uncle.

They sent their children to die on the front in the war with Iraq. That is why nukes in their hands is a death wish for the whole world.

What you say makes a great deal of sense. But the policy of the west for the past oh so many years has been to “negotiate” with Iran. Up until now that has been along the lines of “get rid of your nukes and we’ll sell you some nice fancy trinkets and buy some of your rugs”.

If our “leaders” have pursued that insane policy (and they have) then it seems perfectly reasonable to me that they might try to ratchet up the pressure by playing a game of chicken, which is really just more negotiation.

Agreed. Israel will just have other enemies closer to their doorstep if this is allowed to occur in exchange for a Palestinian state.
