The thing that is surprising to me is that this guy has *any* support on FR, for doing what he did. This guy is no more a patriot than Ehren Watada was. Politics these days, they're a' shallow... And short-sighted.

Since he’s a Freeper, why don’t you tell him that yourself.

His supporters are indeed short-sighted. They apparently can't be bothered to look past their opposition to Obama, and see the larger implications of soldiers filing suit over their deployment orders, and deciding whose orders they will and will not follow.

Politics these days, they're a' shallow...

Yup.

“This guy is no more a patriot...”

Are you kidding??? This guy is an extreme patriot! He has risked his liberty, fortune, and sacred honor!

This guy actually had the b@lls to do what thousands of his comrades-in-arms wanted to but they valued their careers too much to do so!

This is the crack in the dam; the camel's nose under the tent; it only gets better from here!

Major Cook is NOT refusing deployment. He is questioning if orders he receives and must give would be upholding the Constitution IF the Commander In Chief is not Constitutionally qualified to be Commenader in Chief.

Major Cook has not called the war in Afganistan or Iraq illegal as Ehren Watada did and refused deployment.

Big difference, don't you think?

Actually I respect Mr. Watada’s stance; even if I don’t really agree with him philosophically... the whole “war-crimes” thing should have been seriously considered (on the merit of the legitimacy of ops in Iraq, rather than on the President), and the resolution to activities in Iraq could be explained as a resumption of War after the cease-fire had been breached by Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi military operations which included active-targeting of US aircraft. (IIRC we had a cease-fire and didn’t end the declaration of war from Pr Bush Sr.)

There is a giant difference here, the person you refer basically argued that the war was illegal because (from wiki, yea, I know the source is not a valid source, however) " Professor of international law Francis Boyle testified that the war is illegal because it was not authorized by the U.N. Security Council, and claimed that Congress approved the war on the basis of faulty intelligence. "

Congress approved the war, yet his argument is that the UN should have authorized the war. Care to explain why you believe we should have supported Watada?
