CARY — A Big Mac with a jolt of juice is on the menu at a new Raleigh-area McDonald's that will be the first in the nation to feature electric car charging stations.

The new McDonald's opens Tuesday with two battery charging units for patrons of the restaurant or the nearby shopping center to use free of charge.

New problem for McD’s:

“No sir, you can’t plug your car in and leave it there all day.”

“No ma’am, you have to buy something here if you want to use the charging station.”

“You have to unplug the cable before pulling out!”

911: “Yeah, I pulled up to the %#@* Mickey D’s and both of their charging stations are out of order! ..... No, I want you to come out here with a portable battery and juice my car up! ......Yes, I’ll be right here waiting.”

One of these days I’m going to move out to the country and have a coal stove. My brother had one in his house when I was a kid. I guess it’s just the memory of the blazing heat that thing used to put out and the smell.

Friends have a house that was built in the early 20’s with a coal chute in the cellar. There’s still chunks of coal behind the brick wall and in a gap in the concrete floor.

My brother’s was a Warm Morning stove about 20 inches square and 3-4 feet tall, lined with firebrick. He had a little house back then and it heated the entire place. If you used too much coal it would get so hot it would run you out of the room.

I was always worried about copperheads when messing with the coal pile outside in the fall.

My dad’s got a Jotul coal stove that was installed 30 years ago in a side room of the house and he’s never burned a fire in it.

My kids found a nest of copperhead eggs and we put them in 5 gallon bucket until they hatched. They are born mean and were striking at a stick a few minutes after hatching.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a McDonalds that had only two customers. Come on Mickey! Get real! You need at least 25 “charging stations.” Only two stations is a joke!
