David Keene, the Chairman of the American Conservative Union trashed Sarah Palin publicly today on NewsMax. However, a quick search of Mr. Keene's recent political contribution history reveals the following:
David Keene, Managing Associate of the Carmen Group Lobbying Firm, and Head of ACU, Alexandria, VA.
Political contributions in 2008 election cycle:
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 5/1/07 $1,000 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $800 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $200 Specter, Arlen (R)
What I want to know is, how does a guy like this get to be the chairman of the ACU? Has the American Conservative Union turned into the American Liberal Republicans Who Are Now Democrats Union when we weren't looking? Apparently so.
That said, if I were Sarah Palin, I'd take this guy's advice and toss it in the bin with the rest of the fish guts.
(More Keene babble fest on Mitt’s water carrier, Hugh Hewett.)
HH: Wow, thats a long record. Now you stunned a lot of people this morning when it was announced youd endorsed Mitt Romney. Does that mean the ACU has endorsed Mitt Romney, or is it just David Keene?
DK: Its just me, for what thats worth. The ACU doesnt endorse candidates. I was going to stay out of this for a variety of reasons. As this race began, and I think youve been watching it, none of the candidates seemed capable of really reaching into the various component parts of the conservative movement, and therefore, the Republican base. Weve got, as you know, economic conservatives, social conservatives, national defense conservatives. And the candidates seem to be isolating themselves with one part of the base, rather than the whole thing. Secondly, frankly, I have a lot of friends that are running. I know a lot of the candidates. I had breakfast this morning with Duncan Hunter. And I admire a number of the candidates, and I thought a number of them would be able to win. But in the last few months, a couple of things have happened. One is Ive become convinced that the single candidate that is capable of reaching into all the camps is Mitt Romney. Secondly, Ive become more and more convinced that if Mayor Giuliani were to win the nomination, he would fracture the coalition, and it would be very difficult to pick up the pieces after its over. If you combine that with the fact that the only candidate, other than that has a plan to win other than Giuliani, is Mitt Romney, whos doing it the old-fashioned way. Hes organizing in the early states, hes doing the things that candidates have traditionally done to break through and then win in the big states. Its become clear to me that particularly with the collapse of Fred Thompson, that what we have shaping up, and therell be bumps in the road, youll have Huckabee getting more votes expected here, and somebody else getting more votes than expected there, but what weve really got is a race between Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani. And the reason that I came out for Mitt Romney today is on the one hand, I believe he is the candidate that can unite the party and win, and on the other hand because I think its time for conservatives to step up to the plate and say if were serious, and this is the choice, then lets make that choice.
“Only group to donate to is Heritage Foundation.”
Ditto. Money well spent.
AND, last year they sent me 7 copies of the Constitution that I had requested for my grandchildren.
Romney is increasingluy looking like a TROLL!!!!!
Romney is increasingly looking like a TROLL!!!!!
LOL—that’s what I thought when I first saw Keene’s photo.
Nothing that I have received from them or that I have read anywhere, indicated that they were on board with any government enforced insurance program anywhere.
Please post your reference from Heritage for us all to read.
I also dont know what her position is on the crucial issues of the day: socialized medicine, cap and trade and nuclear disarmament....
A "Conservative" Mittbot saying socialized medicine is an issue...
Wow...
A full day supply of irony in a single phrase...
Unless you are saying you are in favor of socialized medicine, then I with draw the ironic comment...
At least on that...
Take note of all these pubbies who are bashing Sarah...they will not be forgotten, especially at contribution time.
It’s another way of telling someone to grow up.
For example, if you’re in boot camp or on a pro baseball team, sometimes your coach will confront you so you will excel.
Nice to see someone finally notice. Sad that it took “Palin-bashing” to bring it to light. I would challenge all conservatives to start peeling back the layers of the onions of the rest of the so-called “conservative” DC organizations that harvest tens of millions of dollars from the rank and file, while regularly selling them down the river. Most of them have been bought out lock, stock and barrel by Romney.
Here is what I don’t understand. Assuming all of these “conservative” pundits, columnsists, and figures who are attacking Palin are really conservative then why the hell would you air it in public. Even if I believed that Palin was wrong (which I don’t) I would never air my frustrations with her so all of the leftist scum could lop it up. Why the hell would any conservative want to be quoted by the enemy as siding with them? This is what I don’t understand about Erick Erickson of redstate.com. Are you proud of yourself that you are quoted in the Washington Compost as siding against the person who makes the liberals shake in their panties?
Some in the Heritage health care group have supported Romney's attempt at giving it a try, but I would say it is not the organization as a whole, indeed the idea was never actually taken beyond “the lab” by Heritage, just picked up as Romney was making his own.
Obviously there was a reason for that. There is no “government based” solution, conservative or otherwise that works in the real world....
Romney tried it anyways...

And you conveniently overlook the way she flaked out on CPAC. So now even CPAC isn’t conservative enough for “true conservatives?”
As I said, I’d rather focus on pressing ISSUES of concern rather than this ongoing obsession with a PERSON.
