Sarah Palin: Unpredictable Success
Moca Java ^ | July 8, 2009 | Allison Westbrook

Sarah Palin has taken the world by storm since late August of 2008. She has presented herself to the public as a maverick, and endured much scrutiny and objection since she took the stage as John McCain’s vice presidential pick. Her conservative agenda and family focus made people fall in love with her all across the United States. Sarah’s unconventional politics have given her a record of integrity and a promise to fight political corruption from the smallest city governments to the national level as well. A self-proclaimed hockey mom, Mrs. Palin appeals to the average American, embracing traditional values.

Just a regular girl from Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin saw the opportunity for governmental improvement in her tiny town of 9,000 people in the late 1990’s. She served on the city council four years before winning an election to mayor. Her executive experience as mayor and success in the town pushed her to run for lieutenant governor of Alaska, though she didn’t win. After a couple of years as chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, she decided to run for governor of Alaska, and won as both the youngest and first female governor the state had ever elected.

As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has placed much emphasis on energy conservation including many forms of renewable energy. Despite the fact that this issue is usually a democratic stronghold, this feisty republican goes against the grain on several issues and has led her state in the production of power plants that run on solar and wind energy, as well as hydroelectricity and natural gas. Though cleaner, more renewable energy is on her agenda, she acknowledges that it is a long way from being perfected. In the mean time, she suggests and supports domestic and offshore drilling to help offset the costs of oil, and create more energy independence.

On the controversial issue of abortion, Sarah has been firm on her stance that life begins at conception. She has consistently spoken out against stem cell research and has a strong voting record of opposing a woman’s right to choose. Though she is against the destruction of life, she does support contraception and better adoption policies. One of Sarah Palin’s five children, Trig, has down syndrome. The thought of aborting him never even crossed her mind, boasting proudly that her son was a “gift from God.”

Sarah made a strong opposition to the financial bailouts of Wall Street and major companies that made poor financial decisions. She is unambiguous in her beliefs that big government will be detrimental to the future of America, and the certain death of financial independence and free trade. During her tenure as governor, she not only reduced the general spending fund by millions, but there was actually a surplus in the budget of Alaska that was not kept or allocated, but instead refunded to the tax payers.

Perhaps her most favored platform, Sarah’s views on moral and social issues create a stir in the mainstream media and liberal left. She has made it a priority to preserve marriage as an institution between one man and one woman. Her legislation supports only traditional marriage, though she does accept same-sex couple benefits. Sarah Palin describes herself as a feminist, citing that women should have equal pay for equal work.

Since losing the vice-presidential bid, Sarah Palin has shown no restraint in speaking out against big government and socialistic politics. Her ideals clash with the policies of the most liberal Washington incumbents. The liberal mainstream media has not let up on her criticism, viewing her as a remaining and future threat to democratic control of Washington. There are articles, columns and interviews daily discussing her faults. Late night television hosts seem to use her personal life as a punch line, some crossing the line into unethical jokes about her young daughters and sons.

Sarah Palin’s political successes and failures have not gone unnoticed by taxpayers either. Her poll numbers have risen and declined, seeing approval ratings as high as 93 percent, but never less than 50%. Her good nature and sharp humor give her an edge on political opponents. When she first took the seat of both mayor and governor, she immediately began overturning corruption within government, opposing the use of political power and tax money for personal gain. According to Palin, the people that she serves are the priority. Even as mayor of Alaska, Sarah made random phone calls to residents asking for suggestions and comments on the town policies. Going as far as to give herself a 10 percent pay cut, it is clear that Sarah Palin is not serving a personal agenda.

Speculation surrounds Sarah Palin’s political future. On July 3, 2009, she announced her resignation as governor of Alaska on somewhat unclear circumstances. One thing she has made clear is the fact that she feels a higher calling to serve those around her. Though it was a difficult decision, Sarah made the choice to resign in order to do not what’s best for her, but best for the state of Alaska. The constant investigations and allegations against her were costing Sarah and the state of Alaska millions of dollars to fight, with not one allegation being found true.

Though her resignation is fresh on the minds of fans and critics alike, hopes are high that Sarah will ink a television deal, or even make a bid for the 2012 presidential elections. She remains in touch with her fans and supporters via social networking websites, with frequent comments on social and governmental issues. She has formed a political action committee that helps support the election of various candidates to office. Her nonconformist views are inspirational to men and women alike, and are believed to have the ability to unite republicans, democrats and independents to a better cause. A book by Sarah Palin is scheduled for release in 2010. Though her future plans are vague, Sarah has opportunity awaiting her. She has demonstrated a welcome voice in American politics, representing the heart of traditionalists everywhere. One thing is for sure: America has not heard the last of Sarah Palin.

I like it. It fairly summarizes all of her accomplishments. I did catch this: A book by Sarah Palin is scheduled for release in 2010. I suspected it and know it will drive "them" crazy.

Been watching Palin since around 94-95 when first introduced to her at legislative office in Wasilla. Most of the media can't begin to understand what has occurred up here; though they all think nobody could be be sharper than themselves. Palin actually did Ak repubs a big favor and Parnell will be our nx elected gov in 2 years.

What I really liked about Palin besides how for real she is; that whenever a decision is to be made; she does the right thing even if it is a pro dem issue & cause. She grated alot of repubs up here but the people embraced her and trust her; they don't trust any politicals in Ak. I'd support and vote for her even if she switched partys; that's how good she is. Palin will prove all the pundits wrong.

I like her. I knew of her prior to her VP choice and was even more impressed by how she dealt (adapted) with both family and political challenges. Her decision to resign struck me as both logical and in the best interest of Alaska, because of the well funded outside insurgency that infected the local politics. She left the position to a well qualified successor and freed herself up for activities in the lower 48. If she is going to have any chance in politics on the national level, she must have a presence outside of Alaska. She could not do this as Governor.

In my younger years I was involved in the original studies for the Alyeska Pipeline. There were many more direct (connecting) flights prior to the hub system. Even with the travel advantages years ago (and my youth) I would find myself exhausted from the commuting. There is no way she can successfully deal with the requirements of national politics based out of Alaska. She is free now to make an effective run for whatever political activities she chooses.

Good post.

I’ve started working up a timeline of Governor Palin’s civic career. I think it pertains to this article.

Here’s a brief excerpt.

At age 28 she was elected to the Wasilla City Council 1991-1996

At age 32 she was elected as Mayor of Wasilla 1996-2002

At age 39 she became Chairperson for the
Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission 2003-2004

At age 42 she was elected Gov. of Alaska 2006-2009 ret.

She was born in 1964, the same year that Ronald Reagan joined the Goldwater Campaign and made the famous speech “A Time for Choosing” which set many conservative hearts on fire. When I watched his speech, I thought the GOP was running the wrong man for the top slot.

It was the first political activity after leaving the Democrat Party in 1962 to join the GOP.

As he said, “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party, they left me.” He was 53 when he made the GOP convention speech.

Reagan was elected Gov. of California in 1967 at age 56.

He ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 1976 losing by a narrow margin 1187 to 1070 to Gerald Ford where Reagan was bitterly opposed by the Rockefeller wing of the GOP. Reagan was 65 at the time.

In short, Reagan was reviled by both the Rockefeller country club GOP as well as the Dems, much as Sarah Palin has been, yet both spoke from deep seated convictions expressed honestly in such a fashion that resonate among hardworking citizens that believe and live the ideals expressed by the founding fathers, knowing that something is very wrong with the governance of the country, that a wrong turn has been taken leading to disaster.

Reading the C4P site every day I am stunned at the ego’s and the crookedness of so many politicos up in AK on both sides of the aisle... almost like AK was out of sight and out of mind and the MSM ignored what goes on. So far it seems at least two have tried to cause Sarah problems just since her announcement, one even writing a letter to the WaPo to try and undermine her. Is it something in the water up there?

It’s nice to read the positive articles, isn’t it ? There’s one mistake, tho: “The thought of aborting him never even crossed her mind...” While I don’t think she’s ever gone so far as to say she considered an abortion, she has often commented about her reaction after hearing of Trig’s Downs Syndrome, and it sounds like abortion crossed her mind a few times, even if actually having one was never to be in the cards.

All I can say is that the US never has had a greater need for a person like her than now. There are still plenty of true conservatives left who have grown tired of all that ‘Reaching across the isle and appeasement crap’ pardon the language.

It sure would be nice to see some one with the guts and ability to restore this nation to its former greatness and reverse the descent in to the abyss and sewer of socialism. She has my vote in half a heartbeat and I have no doubt this holds true for many other true conservatives.

At least this is my take Saint Germaine

Ronald Reagan
A Time for Choosing (aka "The Speech")
Air date 27 October 1964, Los Angeles, CA

I went to the Young Americans for Freedom convention in New York the summer of 1964 to pass the resolution to draft Goldwater.

It was a rising tide of conservative philosophy formulated by Buckley, Goldwater, Reagan.

Of anticommunism.

And going door to door the encounter with undershirt America who preferred that welfare state--

--preferred that waste of six trillion in the war on poverty--

Who preferred to press those tens of thousands of our finest into a meat grinder of McNamara's nightmarish evil.

Now we have another daring historic figure.

Mocked as Ronald Reagan was mocked.

Springing back with the wiry resilience of the American victor of Patton's description.

Time again to plow under the Communists and the government coneheads.

Wife & I from Westmoreland Co originally; moved up to Ak early 90's, could never readjust to life in Pa, but really miss the burgh. We live 4 miles from Canada on upper Yukon, watch FSN sports, Savran and all the H.S. playoffs in HD, also Super Fan & Center Ice; wifey cooks halupki for the steeler games ect.

Palin will make her presence felt in lower 48. There's a reason why she is so well liked in Ak, her word is good; you can take it to the bank. For the life of me, I've never met any politicals as honest as her.

We had big ice out flood this spring, washed half the town away, ice 40 foot high came in 100 yards from river, crushing everything. Palin flew in, no photo op; even rode 4 wheeler thru mud bog for 6 miles out to Indian Village to visit them, show her concern. That's how she makes impressions on people up here.

Palin's always been for better, responsible govt. Way back when Palin convinced people in Wasilla if they had a 1.5 % sales tax, they could lower prop taxes. The council tried to keep both taxes, Sarah Palin sure put them back in their place, locals realized her word wass gold.

Palin has supported many dem issues up here like education, forward funding, teachers pensions that repubs had bankrupted fund, free med care for kids, and a bunch of other issues. Dems always worked with her until VP run. Now all they want to do in state legislature is make her look bad, like a failure. This all comes down from nat dem party, just like all the dems filing ethics charges, joke charges. Palin wouldn'thave gotten another bill passed her remaining term. She did the right thing. Parnell willhave Palin's staff, & mission; good things to come.

Most all the politicals are bought and paid for by big oil up here, dem & repubs alike. Palin really went after alot of repubs, but ourrepub party tried setting her up A few years back. Alaskan's have watched this show for 15 years. Why Palin beat repub sitting gov in primary 59% to 19%.

Actually, I hope Palin changes the repub party more than anything. Palin has always worked with 3rd partys but never burned her bridgea to repubs.

to post 11 - You state the facts of the matter. Though fleeting, the thought was in her mind as she herself stated.
Everyone has doubts and goes thru personal trials. It is why we were given a free will. To her credit, Sarah Palin revoked the evil choice and opted to bear what she and her husband deem a gift.
Her faith did not fail her, nor she failed her faith.
