The owner of a tiny but famous Sacramento burger joint said a lawsuit about handicapped access could shut him down.
The Squeeze Inn, known for huge mounds of melted cheese on its burgers, violates the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the lawsuit alleges.
Kimberly Block, who says she has severly limited use of her legs, argues she suffered "embarrassment and humiliation" and that her civil rights were violated because of inadequate access inside the Fruitridge Road restaurant.

Burger - ‘Not guilty!’
“If you can’t climb Mount Everest, whom do you sue?”
I would still say the burger joint because they are the reason most people couldnt climb a mountain. If anyone decides to sue let me know, I want a piece of that action. ;)

The ADA is another Bush legacy...Bush 1 this time...
LOL. I demand all newpapers to be printed in braile in the Language of Squirr. ;-)
BEAUTIFUL, AAM.
might try the Yeti . . . although getting service might be a problem.
The other two know that Dickel's for sippin', ducks are for retrievin'.
(As my dad says, they're both too young to drink!)
We can vote by mail here in Texas too. My point was that people with a disability should have access to polling places as well as other government related functions like jury duty. I was just using those as examples. In general, government buildings have a lot of accessibility issues.
We can easily get out of jury duty with a doctors note but what if we don’t want to take the easy way out and want to be involved in our community. Government agencies see differently abled people as victims that need to be taken care of by a government program and not as contributing members of society. Unfortunately, many of us that are capable of working let a stupid government employee convince them that a government entitlement program is the better way to go. The goal of government entitlement programs after all is to get as many people on them as possible.
Sorry for the rant. But this a sore subject for me. I have made a lot of friends with other people with full time jobs that use a wheelchair, walker, or cane the last few years. I think it’s better for educated, differently abled people to work if possible and get involved in the community rather than sit at home and collect a government check.
From the looks of it there may be no one enjoying a burger at this particular joint. But the handicapped will have been served.
I think it only fair, that if a business is made to provide
handicap facilities, that all handicapped people be compelled to frequent that business regularly. If a business is not getting enough handicap business then the police should be called to force the handicap to appear and purchase things.
The gubmint routinely exempts itself from laws that us mere plebeians must follow. That is one reason we need a new revolution in this country. Break out the tar n feathers!
Grr.
Lovely dogs! I need to find someone who’ll lend me a large, placid dog for a weekend to see how my too-many cats will react. I want a collie, but I’d like to gauge the level of unhappiness my cats will feel before making that commitment.
Or at least equally un-served.
You really should try your cats out on a puppy. They will be totally intimidated by a large grown dog, and the dog might have an opinion about cats too. The cats will control the puppy and the younger cats will even end up playing with it.
Imagine the chaos (and lawsuits) that would ensue if a bus load of morbidly obese tourists decided to drop in for lunch and they couldn't get thru the front door.....
I’m assuming Mr. Mayo acted as his own counsel...surely any real lawyer would be disbarred for the frivolity. Or at least ruthlessly mocked at every bar meeting for the rest of his life.
This has nothing to do with accessibility and everything to do with getting some liability insurance monies for the “victim” and her scum lawyer.
The Rough collies (the 'Lassie' dogs) are calmer, but any young collie might tend to agitate the cats -- since they all have herding and nipping tendencies. An older, calmer dog would probably be better for the kitties than getting a puppy. Just about all puppies are more active, curious, and mouthy than a grown dog of the same breed. And then of course you wouldn't have to go through housebreaking!
You might get somebody to loan you an older collie (who knows the command "leave it!") Or you could go to a Collie Rescue organization and ask for one that is cat safe. They might even bring one to your house and let you see how the cats react. Our rescue people here locally are very flexible and work hard to find homes for their dogs. They foster out their dogs before they place them and have a good idea of their temperament and habits.
