If DC has that many cameras, drivers are going to get sick of the alarm going off all the time. There's no alarm; and no one comes to stop you from speeding. What happens is you get a hefty ticket in the mail a few days later and have to pay it.

The "alarm" is your GPS or iPhone alerting you to a reported camera or speedtrap location. That's what this police chief is whining about - civilian "electronic countermeasures".

Good point.
Speed cameras do NOTHING to slow drivers down for safety reasons.
And if slowing them down is the point, then they are worthless.
Obviously, slowing drivers is not the point.
