Weary Palin Sought to Regain Control
The Washington Post ^ | Sunday, July 5, 2009 (The Future) | Philip Rucker

Theories abound. But some of the people closest to the Alaska governor say she wanted to regain control of a political script that slipped out of her hands the moment she burst onto the national stage. She also wanted to shield herself and her family from the attacks that seem to have been aimed permanently at them in the 311 days since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced her as his running mate, according to some former campaign aides and other advisers who speak regularly with Palin or her husband, Todd.

...What that stage may be remains the big question looming over national politics this weekend, and advisers said she is truly undecided about running for president in 2012, or ever. But for the first time, she recently solicited money for her political action committee.

...Another reason Palin decided to leave office is her income potential, advisers said. As governor, she earns $125,000, and Todd Palin, an oil production operator and commercial fisherman, took home about $86,000 (not counting $5,600 for winning the Iron Dog snowmobile race), according to her latest financial disclosure.

Palin told the Anchorage Daily News that her legal debt was at least $500,000 and that she was thinking of creating a defense fund to pay the bills. "Obviously, we cannot afford to personally pay these bills," she said.

The governor agreed to a book contract, the terms of which have been kept secret, and when she leaves office could begin amassing a small fortune on the speaking circuit. One adviser said she could net at least $60,000 a speech.

Sarah, one thing I'd love to do is see you rake it in. Get a nice book contract and start making expensive speeches. You and your family deserve it.

Oh I don’t know about that, I think maybe she was a bit. she was under a lot of stress and 500,000 in legal bliss with nothing to look forward to but yet more legal trouble. these b@stards were not about to let up on her and then add on top of that all the scrutiny, bad jokes on her family, and raising a down syndrome baby, she might just be a little weary.

Now give up totally weary, I don’t know about that, will have to see.

They quote her lawyer - what a bunch of BS. he’s not going to talk to anyone - client privilege.

All the best to Sarah and family - soon to be the ‘first family’. :)

It was a shock, hearing that she was quitting. I’ve no illusions about any politician, and only became convinced of her merit when she demonstrated it.
But on reflection, she did the right thing, and the smart thing; for her family and her state.
Will she ever be president? Who can say. If she runs, she definitely gets my vote.

From now forward, you have to ask the price of a Washington Post story.

Palin really has the media running in circles.
And if you read this gem of an article, you'd see how ironic the media reaction is to her resignation.
First they painted her as incompetent when she was selected for VP; now all of a sudden they're gasping at how she can do such a thing, resign. No one on the Left is saying "don't let the door hit ya" or "good riddance" or nothing like that.
I still wished though, that Palin should have served until the end of the year so she'd have 3 years and it would have looked better, but I guess she didn't want the Lt Gov to immediately start planning for re-election. Oh well.

Regain control of a political script? Wouldn’t another possible method to regain control of a political script involve knuckling down and doing a good job as Alaska’s governor?

Well, she could, in the future, claim that political power is not what motivates her and that her resignation shows proof of that. Then, in the next breath, she could say that she's running for president not because she seeks power but because the legislative branch has no check on run-away spending at that the country is better suited having a presidential veto to have to override to keep the socialist takeover from continuing further. That it's not power that she seeks by becoming a candidate for the executive post: that it's power that she's attempting to limit by being a veto-check on the asshats of the congress and senate.

knuckling down and doing a good job as Alaska’s governor?

But she Did do a good job as guv!
As pointed out in her farewell speech, she accomplished many if not all the things she planned to, and did it in 2 years instead of 4 !

Her problem of continuing to do a good job was the constant legal attacks accusing her of ethics violations.
All of her time and her staff's time was consumed in defending her office against baseless attacks in court.
Continuing to act as Governor was a waste of her time and money as well as the state of Alaska's.

“her legal debt was at least $500,000 and that she was thinking of creating a defense fund to pay the bills. “Obviously, we cannot afford to personally pay these bills,” she said.”

There you have it, as well as the horribly mean-spirited attacks on her children.

If she stays, the hard-left meanies will continue to cost her even more money.

She’s not weary; she’s loaded for bear, but I’m glad for the Washington Compost and other MSM outlets to labor under that misperception.
