In possible signal to Iran, Israel sends sub through Suez Canal
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jul 3, 2009 | YAAKOV KATZ

After a long hiatus, the Israeli Navy has returned to sailing through the Suez Canal, recently sending one of its advanced Dolphin-class submarines through the waterway to participate in naval maneuvers off the Eilat coast in the Red Sea.

IDF sources said the decision to allow navy vessels to sail through the canal was made recently and was a definite "change of policy" within the service. In 2005, then OC Navy Adm. David Ben-Bashat decided to stop sending Israeli ships through the canal due to growing threats in the area.

However, the Dolphin-class submarine sailed through last month to get from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Israeli officials said it passed through the canal above water, and that it was not done covertly.

The only way to get to the Gulf of Oman without refueling would be to go through the canal. With their reported 4,500 nautical mile range, taking the long way, around Africa, would require the Dolphins to make at least two stops for refueling at a friendly port, or for fuel to be replenished at sea.

It’s about a year later than I would have liked, not to mention that I’m expecting a “signal” that can’t be misunderstood, but I hope they are finally moving.

More info on The Dolphin class subs at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphin_class_submarine and the Israeli Navy at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_Navy.

Israeli Navy Dolphin Class - Type 800 coastal submarines
INS Dolphin (1999)
INS Livyatha (Whale, 1999)
INS Tekuma (Revival, 2000)
On August 25, 2006, Israel signed a deal with Germany to purchase two additional submarines, a deal valued at $1.3 billion, with Germany financing one-third of the total cost.

If the other two move through the canal, we know Bibi means business!

Then again... Photobucket maybe they are already on station.

It’s about a year later than I would have liked,

Marshall your forces before you strike. Long deployments degrade men and equipment. Sending insufficient forces to "send a message" sends the message that you are not serious.

If and when the Israelis strike it will in ways and in places that neither you nor I have imagined and it will entail as much force as they can muster and proceed for days.

One option might be to fly from Kuwait, with the Kuwaitis, who fear the Persians almost as much as they do the Iraqis, giving them covert aid. One way to Kuwait, thence to Iran and back after refueling, is a whole lot shorter than two way from Israel. They might fly a feint from Israel, with a great show of radar jamming and dozens, perhaps hundreds of small radar decoys and then slip in low from the South.

Time will tell.

Exactly. This is the only one we know about. Let's hope Israel isn't informing us about their maneuvers, or Zero will pass the word to his buds in the mideast...

I’m extremely glad to see someone with enough cojones to tweak the mullahs. Sternly worded memos of great concern sure didn’t get the message to them.

The British were vexed by the German battleship Tirpitz which was lurking in Norway from 1942 on. They finally killed her after electronic surveillance found a hole in radar coverage between Denmark and Norway, that allowed low flying Lancasters to fly into Swedish airspace and stay below the mountian tops on their port (west) side and emerge just east of the Tirpitz before the air defenses could fully respond. I don’t think the Israelis are less resourceful.

Sorry Emanuel is telling obozo about the COWS JUMPING OVER
HIS HOUSE, yes those were his words on Larry King live when Clinton was in office, he didn't think he should be wasting his time on the meaningless scandals of Slick Willy when he should be home watching the Cows jumping over his house, and this nub case, this next want a be King Pin Mafia head, criminal is the adviser to the obozo that calls himself President. obozo hasn't the spin to stand up to those that put him where he is and now he must be their puppet, mouth piece, as long as he plays ball he and his terrorists communist buddies can do pretty much anything, but what happens when this mafia group that is running the White House say, enough and they take over this country, their almost there. Emanual, will he be the next John Gotti??? To Emanual I don't think there is any other way of live than the Gotti way, that's live in Illinois. When will Blogo start talking and expose Emanual.
My opinion, the meltdown of our financial system is and act of TREASON and all involved should be charged as such including obozo, covering up a crime makes him just as guilty as those commiting the crime.

Never heard that navigational info about Operation Catechism before. Not saying you are wrong, just wondering. Do you have a source?

I wholeheartedly agree that Israel will strike at the time and place of her choosing and NOTHING will be telgraphed beforehand.
What this is designed to do,IMO, is to set some teeth on edge because Egypt is cooperating here. Israel did this with nary a peep from Egypt. It raises the question, what OTHER countries in the region will shut their eyes should Israel launch?
AND it is to send a signal to the world, along with other Israeli defense leaks, that Israel is no longer going to back down to threats, be they from us, or islam. She has the power and is prepared/preparing/has prepared to use it.
Israel fully intends to survive. Period.

Instruments of Darkness by Alfred Price, PhD. physicist and World War II RAF officer. Wonderful read. Check out the allusion to Macbeth in the title.

Walter Dornberger was the head of the German Army rocket development branch. In his book on Peenemunde he recounts a heavy air raid against the facility. He points out that the greatest loss to the program wasn’t the facilities, which could be repaired, but the loss of trained personnel.

If the Isrealis strike they need to kill as many scientists and engineers, including Russians, as possible. Not only should they not spare office facilities, they should specifically target them and at 10:30 AM on a Tuesday, not 3:00 AM on Saturday.

If you like that book, Price also wrote “A History of U.S. Electronic Warfare”, commissioned by the Society of Old Crows. I read volume I on World War II, I don’t know if volume II ever got completed before he died. If you’re interested in that kind of thing, it’s a must read.
