A Hillary-Obama rift in the making ?
Hot Air ^ | July 01, 2009 | ED MORRISSEY

Jim Geraghty points out an unusual item from Reuters yesterday, in which the State Department announced that Hillary Clinton would not accompany Barack Obama to Moscow next week. The nation’s chief diplomat will stay home while Obama pursues nuclear reductions with Russia, one of his big diplomatic projects, one in which observers would presume that the Secretary of State would have substantial involvement:

So why did Hillary take the job?

To be in the line of succession, and to stay high on the food chain while she looks for an opening to angle him out of the way.

It may have something to do with the fight over the superdelegates after Obama locked up all the regular delegates during the primaries. Perhaps the comments with racial undertones, such as the "Jesse Jackson" comment or the "spade work" comment (which is funny considering Obama's been talking about "shovel ready" jobs from the stimulus bill).

...... as I heard on Rush Limbaugh one day- “when the enemy is fighting, don’t get in their way.”

An Obama / Clinton fued makes logical sense.

I thought right from the start that naming her Secreatry of State was the first step in a shrewd plan to get rid of her. When she was a Senator, he couldn’t control her, and she had a public platform and direct political power. As Secretary of State, she serves at his pleasure, and he can control what she does, and add her to the unemployment rolls if she steps over the line. I still think this is what he’s up to, and it’s one of the things I like about him. He’s got plenty of negatives to be sure, but if hemanages to end the budding Clinton dynasty, the nation will be indebted to him on that count.

"I have thought, all along, that Hillary took her current job for one reason, and that was to get some “gravitas”. My prediction was that in two years, she would resign over some issue, lay low while Obama made a mess of things, and then try to wrest the Democratic nomination from him in 2012."

Why she actually accepted is one of the great political mysteries of the last 25 years. She gains so little, but Obama gains everything in silencing a potential critic, in not only her but her husband as well.

If she had or has aspirations for 2012, she didn't put herself in any better position by joining his administration. She could have used the time to "run towards the center". If things are bad enough for Obama and so unpopular in 2012 that he has to worry about a primary challenger, he's done and so are the Democrats, and especially a Democrat that worked for him.

I thought it was a smart move as she could have been more of a threat to him in the Senate and by appointing her he pretty much controls her.

I dunno. In the Senate, she'd be just one in a group of one hundred, but as SoS, she's in a solo position of great (perceived) authority, and very high profile.

I think she can do much more damage to Obama from her current position than from the Senate, by differing with him on foreign policy, and her relations with foreign heads of state.

All I can say is “Go Hillary!” (I can’t believe I just said that, but that is what it has come to with the Kenyan Usurper)

I dunno....his cabinet is filled with Clinton cronies, just sayin

Yep. That is one curious aspect to all of this, isn't it?

As FDR once said, "There are no accidents or coincidences in politics."

Obama was likely forced to appoint the Clinton cabal, so she's got something on him. There's no way that he would have surrounded himself with her allies, if she didn't.

The Clintons are masters of political intrigue and palace power plays, while Obama is a total novice. They've got him check mated, it would seem, though there's no doubt that he must be making some plays of his own.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in either of their battle bunkers.

regardless of what anyone thinks of HRC, she’s a shrewd operator, she was screwed royally in the primaries, no way for her to win it. She’s biding her time, she will knife him when the time is right and it will come about just after the Nov 2010 elections. Thats where she can really do the damage if things start to tank and the 2010 elections go badly wrong.

Taking the SOS job was one of thats where she needed to be to do as much damage and as much credibility to herself, remember the primaries where they levelled that whole experience thing at her, well they can’t do that now. She’s the most powerful cabinet Secretary, imagine the damage if Bambi tried to remove her with Clinton voters, it would make his re-election in 2012 a lot more difficult if she’s not on board. He only really won 2008 because of her.

My theory is that she wants to get close enough to unload that hollow ring into Bambi’s drink. He’s a fool for letting her get so close.

funny, but i believe if she challenged him again she’d crush him. She won’t hesitate to go after his litany of mistakes unlike the rino we’ll probably get.

That sounds about right, yes. But she'll fail. She's too old and he will have all his people in place; while all her people are getting further out in orbit every day. Clinton's moment is past, though you can't expect her to know it.

sorry but no, she’s like the undead, i lost of how many times she was dead and out of it in the primaries only to come back and deliver an almighty whallop to his face.

She’s like the Terminator, she won’t stop coming.

BINGO

And if she is party to any selling out of our security to the USSR Russians, she would have NO chance in 2012.
