Honduras rulers defy world pressure to restore Zelaya (Obama ready to throw temper tantrum)

The Honduran interim government defied international pressure on Wednesday and vowed there was "no chance at all" of ousted President Manuel Zelaya returning to office.

World leaders from U.S. President Barack Obama to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez have told the new rulers of the Central American country to restore Zelaya, a leftist who was toppled by the army on Sunday and sent into exile after a dispute over presidential term limits.

The Organization of American States gave Honduras an ultimatum early on Wednesday to allow Zelaya back into office by this weekend or face suspension.

But the interim government's response indicated there was little immediate hope of a negotiated solution to the crisis in Honduras, an impoverished coffee and textile producer.

Enrique Ortez, interim foreign minister, said Zelaya would be arrested if he came home, and said the interim authorities were sure that Zelaya had been removed in a legal process.

"We are not negotiating national sovereignty or the presidency," he told Reuters in an interview. "There is no chance at all," of Zelaya coming back to power

That’s a great point. What products in the US are grown or manufactured or use components from Honduras? I would like to show my support for their courage and integrity if possible.

I never thought I’d see the day when the United States would insist on restoring a Marxist dictator to power. Absolutely shameful.

Support the good people of Honduras. Buy bananas and Honduran coffee.

“...a coffee, textile and banana-exporter of 7 million people...”

Buy bananas and Honduran coffee.

No word about the drug connection in the SRM. But...

Regarding Obama's ally, Venezuelan ruler Chavez, UnoAmerica said that "He is tied to Colombian narcotics terrorism (FARC) and to the government of [Iranian President] Ahmadinejad. He finances the Cuban dictatorship. He permanently tramples the Constitution and kidnaps the liberties of the people. He commits electoral fraud. He forcibly represses peaceful and disarmed Venezuelans. He closes means of communication. He hates the Catholic Church."

Rebutting charges of a "military coup," UnoAmerica noted that "the Armed Forces of Honduras have been limited to obey the judicial mandate, that which obligates a reestablishment of constitutional order, thus showing its subordination to the civil authority."

Complicating plans by the Obama White House and its U.N. allies for a forced return of the former president, Honduras Foreign Minister Enrique Ortez told CNN en Espanol that Zelaya was implicated in drug trafficking from Venezuela into the U.S.

"Every night, three or four Venezuelan-registered planes land without the permission of appropriate authorities and bring thousands of pounds...and packages of money that are the fruit of drug trafficking," he said. "We have proof of all of this. Neighboring governments have it. The DEA [U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration] has it," he added.

At a U.N. meeting on October 13, 2008, Zelaya had openly called for the legalization of drugs-supposedly to reduce violence-just weeks after the George Soros-funded Latin American Commission on Drugs and Democracy had met to discuss how to pursue such a course of action. The group subsequently released a report calling for a "paradigm shift" on how to handle the illegal drug problem. Billionaire Soros, a long-time funder of campaigns to legalize dangerous drugs, has purchased the services of several former Latin American government officials to push this cause.

Zelaya's comments were immediately denounced by U.N. Office of Drug Control regional representative José Manuel Martinez Morales, who said such an approach was to "stick our heads under the sand like ostriches and accept the drug trade which is annihilating our youth."

I Googled “honduras exports” and couldn’t find a site with a nice comprehensive listing of companies and products but there are many sites that cover specific industries, companies and products. It would be nice to know what native Honduran companies trade on the market.

Can someone tell me why Obama is so exercised over this guy?

Is it really as trivial as constitutional ideology???
Is it this third term crap??? as if anyone pays attention to that little country???

Or are there some puppet strings that just got severed?

I guess we’ll never know considering Obama’s vastly undisclosed campaign sources.

Maybe the new president there in Honduras can help out a little?

The solution to criminal politicians is deportation. There are a few hundred on Capital Hill and on Pennsylvania Avenue that need to go!!

We could pack the whole gang into a 747 and fly them to Cuba - one way.

This is not a coup. This is forceable removal of a criminal from office. Perfectly legal by Honduran law and ordered by the Supreme Court of the land.

This is another example of why we have got to protect our gun ownership rights.

That describes Obama very well. He is just one big ‘temper tantrum’ waiting to happen.

“Can someone tell me why Obama is so exercised over this guy?”

Could be because the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) supports him

Obama is afraid the same thing will happen to him once his birth certificate is made public.

LMAO, then he might have to get a job working for his pirate cousins.

This is not a coup.

I was listening to NPR on the way home. The NPR "reporter" kept calling it a coup.

She interviewed the Honduran Ambassador. and he said essentially what you said.

This is forcible removal of a criminal from office. Perfectly legal by Honduran law and ordered by the Supreme Court of the land.
