Energy action switches sides on Capitol Hill as poll shows uneasiness
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- With a victory for his energy policy in the House of Representatives last week, President Barack Obama now shifts his attention to the Senate, where passage of a controversial "cap-and-trade" system for cutting greenhouse gas emissions is facing a steep uphill climb.
"In the months to come, the Senate will take up its version of the energy bill, and I am confident that they too will choose to move this country forward," Obama said on Monday. Following the House vote on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he's hopeful that the Senate will debate and pass an energy and climate bill "this fall."
But observers say that getting the "cap-and-trade" bill through the Senate will be a significantly harder task than in the House, where it was approved on a tight vote of 219-212.
"Cap and trade" refers to a system of buying and selling pollution permits to meet emissions limits. The 1,500-page House bill aims to slash greenhouse-gas emissions to 17% below 2005 levels by 2020. By the middle of the century, it would cut emissions to 80% below 2005 levels.
A Rasmussen Reports poll released on Tuesday shows that 42% of Americans believe that the House-passed bill will hurt the economy. A majority of Republicans -- 56% -- and independents -- 52% -- said the bill would hurt the economy, while 23% of Democrats said the same thing. Thirty percent of Democrats said it would help.
Sen. Barbara Boxer, the California Democrat who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said that the House bill gives senators the momentum they need to do their own energy bill. But observers are skeptical that Democrats will be able to muster

He will blackmail senators, if he has to, to get them to vote for it.
More Government control. Why doesn’t the Senate then just crank up Electric Generators, they now make cars, bank, do it all.....and see how soon we’ll be like Honduras, can’t get rid of the man who was elected, and served his term limits.
I would rather see it face a downhill climb.
The Senate is by and large composed of spineless compromisers. Expect a few token window dressing “amendments” to the house version of cap & tax, mostly purchased by some special interests. Otherwise it’s gonna fly through.
Coleman concedes. Franken wins and gives Dems 60 seats in the Senate.
With Rino senators like Cryin’ Voinovich there’s little chance of turning enough democrats.
Make your senator sweat. I was civil with my congress-rat. I have not been so with the smarmy sen. bill nelson (rat-FL).
“Vote to kill the economy” faces uphill climb in Senate.
A properly presented 5 minute YouTube or whatever could do the trick. A visualization of the long oppressive arm of the government coming down to take your Freedoms, Liberties and choices away.
I can only pray such people smarter and more capable than I do it.
I'm curious to see how much pressure Wall Street interests, ie, the nonbanking financial people, put on Congress to pass cap and trade. The g/rumbling is that cap-and-trade trading is going to be the next bubble on the street.
The American people will eventually be scared out of voting for most Democrats. Unfortunately, it will take time for reality to sink in. By then, the damage will be hard to overcome. But if anyone can overcome the damage of socialism, it's the American people. Despite what Obama was indoctrinated to believe, we are truly exceptional people.

Carbon Credits: A Scam
http://market-ticker.org/archives/1171-Carbon-Credits-A-Scam.html
“We’re 1/15th of the population in question and nearly all of the rest of the people involved are going to dramatically increase their per-capita CO2 output whether we like it or not.
Herein lies the problem: While we emit more CO2 per-capita than anyone else today, we won’t be emitting the most CO2 for very long on an aggregate basis. To actually stop the increase in CO2 emissions we would have to find some way to compel the Asians and Africans to not increase their CO2 emissions.
But all possible means for them to improve their standard of living inherently involve significant and even dramatic increases in CO2 emissions per-capita. The math is simple: Within a few years China will emit more CO2 than we will. A few years after that both Africa and India will surpass the United States.
None of these regions will agree to stop emitting CO2 because to do so is to agree to keep their people perpetually poor and agrarian while we enjoy the fruits of a westernized, industrialized economy.”
I’m very scared this is going to go through one way or the other.
They’re portraying the Senate fight like they did the House fight, so they look better once it passes.
Isn't declaring CO2 a pollutant really saying that God, as the creator of man is unlcean? Was God mistaken to create man and have him exhale CO2? If we are created in his image, I guess that makes him a polluter. In fact,Jesus exhaled that evil gas thereby making him a sinner because he contributed to the pollution of the Creators creation. The insanity we are witnessing in congress and the presidency goes far beyond the flesh. We are indeed engulfed in a battle between powers and principalities of the air. Evil is gathering forces. Its fate is certain. Take heart. They may kill the economy but they won't kill God!!
Note: this bill will come up for consideration in the heat of the summer. Every record high temperature will be publicized at that time.
And amnesty.
