Generally speaking, Im a believer in the rule that we should not speak ill of the dead. Or at least we should wait a decent interval before doing so (if we never spoke ill of the dead, history would be meaningless). But, I must say I find the medias instinctive rush to sanctify Michael Jackson disgusting.
Look, I understand that Michael Jackson was an "icon." I understand that some people loved his work and that many people who never met him believed they loved the man too.
But I didn't, and Im hardly alone. If Michael Jackson were just another famous person, Id probably stay silent and let the pro forma celebration of his memory roll by without comment. (For instance, I have no problem whatsoever with the media taking a moment to pay respects to Farah Fawcett).

A very good read.
The news media, Fox News included, are making Michael Jackson a celebrated pedophile.
I heard that a fellow named John Merrick wants to buy Michael’s body.
Yes. Why not wait until AFTER the funeral? Then you can dance on his grave... such fun... Thriller REDUX.
/sarcasm on/
It really would be nice if some here would try to have a semblance of feeling for his family and loved ones.
What’s up with all these ditsy threads on Freaky Mikey Jackson?
Personally I think Micheal died because he had lost his childhood. He was an extremely gifted human being who also lived a very blessed life but he burned out from the extreme spotlight. The last 10 to 15 years of his life were a sick tradegy.
The controversy that surrounded him will never be resolved fully but hopefully the good is never forgotten as well.
Micheal Jackson was a star from when he was a toddler almost. He never had a normal life. His life legacy will always be scarred but that scar is upon all of our culture and not just him alone.
Had he died long ago, before the skin-bleaching and the infant dangling, his legacy would have been different. Maybe Marilyn Monroe and James Dean had the right idea.
It is just as likely Micheal was extorted for money because he was such a messed up person who people would believe he might have done it.
So let’s all celebrate with some ‘Jesus juice’
Personally I think Micheal was suffering from some very serous issues that involved his self esteem and children but of course legally that may never be resolved now.
The last 10 to 15 years of his life he displayed some very troubling signs of this from his extreme plastic surgery to his feminization of himself to his obsession with children.
It’s more fun to hate him for unproven allegations that may or may not be true. Or it’s just hard for some people to hold more than a single idea in their head at time - that someone can be intensely talented, but at the same time intensely flawed and that one can celebrate someone’s talent without endorsing that person’s struggle with various demons.
Actually I think “Thriller” was a terrific album, and Michael Jackson was a terrific talent.
But man, was he weird.
Very nice. I was having some of the same thoughts last evening. I’m glad to see them addressed like this.
