Our society as a whole needs to take some responsibility for how he was allowed to disintegrate — obviously mentally ill to the point of being a danger to both himself and others, and yet no court would order him into a secure treatment/care setting or appoint a legal guardian for him.

BS. Everyone bears responsibility for their own actions. The "I'm depraved because I am deprived" defense doesn't work. Prisons are full of such people. Yet, many have come out of such circumstances and not committed such crimes. His ability as an entertainer doesn't excuse his actions.

Read up on his life before you judge. And no, not everyone bears responsibility for their own actions — many people have mental illnesses that prevent them from thinking or acting responsibly. In Jackson’s case, his mental illness appeared to be largely if not entirely the result of things inflicted on him by other people before he was old enough to have any control over what people did to him.
