I fear this is becoming a racial issue in that African Americans weren’t “allowed” to be featured on MTV, implying that the music industry was racist at the time and barriers needed to be broken. In fact, we’re talking about the 1980s, not the stone age.

????? What possible reason would MTV have for this? MJ was already a well known singer. MTV enhanced his career but it didn’t initiate it.

I would counter that MJ's videos enhanced MTV viewer numbers. A beneficial relationship for both parties.
