I doubt it, many other societies find nothing wrong with powerful men having affairs.

But even in France, where politicians who don't engage in affairs are practically considered freaks, a pol who purported to support an agenda promoting family values, advocating traditional mores & offering a vigorous defense of of the civil institution of marriage would be shamed for his hypocrisy.

Heck, people everywhere, even here, are more willing to turn a blind eye to officeholders who are unfaithful to their wives than those who are unfaithful to their public pronouncements. It's one thing for these guys to betray their spouses because that is indeed their business. It's quite another when they betray us after he or she has chosen to make it our business as part of his or her proposed political agenda, no?

Yes, but I don’t think he would have commited suicide over it.
