Dude, Clinton was a D who had the common decency to screw underage women.
If by "underage" you mean 22 years old, then I guess you're right.
The rules are different for Ds. Republcans have to be faithful. Its the rules. Dems get to cheat.
Yeah, just ask former Senators Larry Craig, David Vitter, and John Ensign. And of course the political careers of Rudy Giuliani and Newt Gingrich are long over because of these rules that Republicans have to be faithful while Dems get to cheat. President John Edwards is absolutely gleeful over this double standard.

Oh please this is politics, not causation. The GOP has everything to do with it.

Imho, there is obviously something very wrong in Sanfords marriage. Something is seriously missing. Yeah it's called fidelity, respect, faithfulness, obedience, and love.

Mark Sanford had real potential to become President.
Now he has thrown that all away.
What the hell is wrong with men like him?
And men say women are hard to figure out!

Talk about self-destructive.
To me, it sounds like this guy subconsciously just wants out. Out of politics and out of his marriage. Someone mentioned that Sanford's wife was/is the ambitious one, so perhaps Sanford just doesn't want to go along with the program any longer.

Often times it is the women who push their husbands into politics. The women want the power... remember Mike and Ariana Huffington?

You may be right but he isn’t thinking straight at the moment. Very garbled thinking. Psychotic break?
His PMD needs to check him out medically and possibly send him for psych eval.

I owe an apology to some members on this board when I defended Governor Sanford, I, never in the world, thought he was capable of this behavior.
What a betrayal to all the people who supported him.

No need to fly off the handle. We know you won't go that far.
Besides, GW and his Dad were formidable, ethical and respected U.S. Leaders.

To: Chet 99; All
serial adultery didnt derail Clinton Sanford should have read a prepared statement, something that went like this:
===========================================================
Indeed, I did have a relationship with an Argentine woman that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible.
I misled people, including even my wife. I deeply regret that. I can only tell you I was motivated by many factors: first, by a desire to protect myself from the embarrassment of my own conduct. I was also very concerned about protecting my family.
Now this matter is between me, my wife, our family and our God. I must put it right, and I am prepared to do whatever it takes to do so. Nothing is more important to me personally. But it is private. And I intend to reclaim my family life for my family. It's nobody's business but ours. Even Governors have private lives.
=========================================================== Something like that might improve his popularity, you think? /sarc

The comedians are going to have a field day with this one. I can't say I blame them.
This whole story has been bizarro since the day it broke.

I feel sorry for his boys. Their father not only betrayed their mother and them (on Father's Day no less), but then he apologized in such a weak and whining fashion as to publicly humiliate them even further. He should have never taken questions. Bad judgment.
For the sake of the family, I hope they are all able to forgive and reconcile. I won't hold my breath on that one though.
For the sake of the GOP, I hope we can find more leaders who not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. Again, we are left looking like big, fat hypocrites.
