Actually, I do know that he left the Country. He admitted it in the “exclusive” newspaper interview this morning when he returned to the airport. The interview is linked somewhere else in this thread.

It has nothing to do with his free time.

It is the protocol that should have been followed. He should have put the LT Governor in charge and made an announcement he was taking a vacation - see you in a week.

We need to wake up people. We have to be one step ahead of this administration and the press - if you are not they will swallow you up in the sea of perception, etc.

This isn’t rocket science...you just have to read Alinsky’s work to see how they do it. Once you know what they are going to do you can make your play ahead of them. Quite frankly is Sanford wasn’t wise to this then he is either too arrogant or just a fool.

We need smart people that are willing to step up to the game and help us defeat the tyranny that is on our doorsteps - and Sanford clearly isn’t one of them. Shame but better we find out now than later.

Are there any real Patriots left in our country?

Conservatives need to cross this guy off the list of potential POTUS candidates for 2012 immediately. We have a pathetic excuse for a list as it is.

Ditto

Yes—and he only cut his planned full week away short when it hit the news.

Allow me to don my tinfoil for a moment.

Perhaps he DID tell Lt. Gov Bauer. Bauer and Sanford are well known to NOT like each other...maybe Bauer knew exactly where Sanford was and was told to “man the helm” while he was gone, but Bauer used it as a political opportunity to sabatoge Sanford by acting as if he knew nothing, making up stories to make Sanford look irresponsible, when in fact Bauer knew all along what was going on.

I trust nothing that has been “reported” about him by the media, nor from RINOs in his own state. Nothing. As a comment was made, this was making a mountain out of a molehill. I cannot believe how hysterical FReepers are acting over something they don’t have the facts about. One thing is for sure, if this is typical reaction towards our best and brightest based on a non-story and lack of facts, it’s gonna be real easy to destroy Palin in ‘12 when more things will be made up by the media and the haters to sink her. Sad.

I think you are right, it's the media attempting to smear a potential presidential candidate “before” he becomes one. Where was Barney Frank or or Rangle or any other liberal democrat politician who hasn't been seen in 4 days. Let's start calling for their whereabouts and demanding to see them. I am CERTAIN the “banking queen” is up to no good.

“When it comes to negative stories on our people, I don’t condemn based on “media reports” until I know the facts and hear from THEM. It’s a shame so many so-called FReepers believe whatever the media tells them.”

I agree. I see very little substantiated FACT being discussed. The whole thing seems to be a tempest in a teapot via pop culture. I wouldn’t be at all surprised that this is also an attempt by the leftists to smear this guy.

I’m betting if we had a thread about some factory worker who disappeared from his job for four days, you wouldn’t say it was none of his employer’s business that he was off the job without notice.

The human resource policy of at least three major corporations I know of , is that failure to appear as scheduled for three days constitutes job abandonment and automatic termination of employment unless the person was injured or otherwise unable to communicate, and the reason for the inability must be documented.

Far as I can tell, Sanford was in contact with his chief of staff during the entire trip. I would guess he was also in contact with other government officials as well as his wife. My wife would gladly lie to scumbags (media, lawyers, etc) if I asked her to.

The problem seems to be that he went out of contact with the media, and those in the know similarly dicked the media around. Big no-no. That is like not paying tribute to the mob.

Now the MSM has a story, which benefits the MSM on its own. Bonuses include the fact that he is a Republican (never miss an opportunity to denigrate the opponents of the MSM Party), he is right-wing (worse to the MSM than being a Republican - at least a RINO supports key parts of the MSM Party platform) and that he is widely believed to have presidential aspirations.

You enjoy giving credibility to such sleazy accusations when you don’t know the facts ? It is amazing how easy it is for Conservatives to kneecap our best and brightest when the media yells “boo.” Do you always swallow whatever the media tells you about our people without question ?

Well this is LIFE as a republican, know that your candidates have to be FAR above reproach bc every foible can and will be used against them. i think it’s a pretty unassailable fact that he was absent from his family/children over Fathers Day. if we know nothing else we know that he wasn’t with them. and please stop with the hyperbolic accusations of hysteria. i could not care less about mark sanford one way or the other, am not out to get him, had no feelings about him prior to this, but have a negative impression of him knowing what LITTLE i do know as fact. and if i am reacting this way, as a well-informed, educated, and pre-disposed towards conservative candidates FREEPER, imagine what the run of the mill non-aligned SC voter thinks. Again, it’s senseless to rail against those who are REACTING to the story, the blame lies with the politician who provided the ammo with which he is being bombarded.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has just returned from a week-long trip to Argentina, The State newspaper reports, even though his staff claimed the disappearing governor was hiking on the Appalachian Trail a few hours away from the state capital.

Sanford’s unknown whereabouts had fueled speculation in South Carolina since he left town Thursday. Even his lieutenant governor was unable to figure out where Sanford had wandered off to.

An explanation came Monday from the governor’s staff — he was hiking the Appalachian Trail to “clear his head,” a spokesman said. Spokesman Joel Sawyer released a second statement Tuesday saying Sanford called his chief of staff to “check in” and would be returning home early due to the hubbub surrounding his absence.
