This is just smoke and mirrors by the MSM propagandists to deflect attention....

So why did Sanford have to help them out?

He didn’t drop off the radar. “The governor said he cut his trip short after his chief of staff, Scott English, told him his trip was gaining a lot of media attention and he needed to come back.”

You may not want to acknowledge this, but if one is a sitting Governor, they cannot just drop completely off of the map! Especially if they have Presidentail aspirations.

The very least he should have done is to let the Lt Gov know where he was going.

I know I cannot do this in my job, and there is no reason to think the people of his state should think otherwise.

I curious to know how a reporter ‘found’ him at the Atlanta airport? Was the reporter tipped off by obama? After all, the US government knows who is coming into the US before they arrive. Tin-foil alert!!!

Now my tinfoil hat wearing friend gets his 15 seconds in the sun. He sent me this earlier tonight:

...Governor Sanford, who has been reported as “missing” for the past week after evading his security detail, pleaded with Ambassador Mamedov to have Russia become the first country to recognize the ‘New Nation’ of South Carolina...

Your friend has been out in the sun way to long. ROFL

I don’t understand why this is a “scandal.”

Top 2 reasons: He's a Republican and his lt. gov. is publicly disapproving of this incident.

South Carolina has some strange politicians, Sanford being one, and that boy-man senator Lindsey Graham.

If that is the case, it changes things (for me).

But it will still be painted differently by the MSM as you are well aware.

And knowledge of how the MSM will paint you is important to any Republican running for POTUS. Looks like he may be tone deaf in this regard. Not good.

From the article I just posted...

Revised Top 10 List: The Next Republican President

1. Mitt Romney

2. Tim Pawlenty

3. John Thune

4. Mark Sanford (up a notch after his “disappearing” act)

5. Mike Huckabee

6. Bobby Jindal

7. Sarah Palin

8. Newt Gingrich

9. Haley Barbour (enters the list after “meetings” with consultants in D.C. this week)

10. Mitch Daniels (enters despite saying “no way”—too many drafters saying “yes”)

Longshot: Hunstman returns from China

I say Barbour/Gingrich. Barbour would take the south hands down.

Stop making unfounded accusations against one of our finest Governors when you don’t know the facts. I’m fed up with the lies and IDIOT so-called FReepers who jump to the side of the leftist media when these NON-stories pop up smearing our best and brightest. I’m also fed up with the contingent of Sanford-haters on this board.

“Don’t governors have a right to take a vacation? Obvioiusly, if you read the story, at least one of his aides knew where he was and was in contact with him, which is why he cut his trip short.”

I’ve read several stories, and they don’t necessarily confirm that one of his aides knew anything. Most of what I read claim he was “incommunicado for several days.” That doesn’t sound like anyone at all knew. And why would an aide know, but not his family? The whole thing is weird.

I agree with you that a governor certainly has a right to take vacation, but being governor is also a 24/7 job so you either relinquish control to the Lt Gov or you stay in contact.

For someone with WH aspirations, the entire episode is quite suspicious...I don’t need the MSM to tell me that.

The article I posted above — http://www.thestate.com/local/story/838823.html — says he flew to Argentina and ‘cruised’ in his car, alone, along the coast.

Thanks. I'm still in the process of waking up this morning. :)

So, this isn't really so bad. He may have had an argument with his wife and needed to get away for a while. That is why she didn't know where he was. I suspect it was some lefty 'reporter' who threw in the phrase "cruising in his car" so to create false speculation that he was out looking for guys or some such craziness.

I like him as much as everyone around here does.

That said, if the stress of battling the white house and state legislature over stimulus, causes him to “wig out” to Buenos Aires (if true)....especially without it being known ahead of time....

This tells me he’s not only not ready for his hand to be on the “red phone” but he’s not a terribly responsible governor. I hate to say it, because I admire the man.

If I were one of his constituents, I’d be fuming over such an irresponsible act. And no, I can’t blame the MSM, if this version of the story is true. He ended any upward progression of his career all by himself, sadly.

I’m hoping this is a reporting error and the real truth comes out later.

“The governor said he cut his trip short after his chief of staff, Scott English, told him his trip was gaining a lot of media attention and he needed to come back.” He didn’t drop off the radar.

So why didn't the rest of the state, not to mention the wife and kiddies, know where the heck the guy was?

His chief of staff could get a hold of him? Why only the chief of staff...?

Conservatives need to cross this guy off the list of potential POTUS candidates for 2012 immediately. We have a pathetic excuse for a list as it is.
Looks like I need a replacement for my tagline- suggestions? And I don't need to hear from Sanford apologists with their "his private life is private, the MSM is doing this to him, etc." - the guy has ruined any chances he had by this stunt.

or he could have taking a motorcyle cruise. I know its a stretch.

This guy needs to gather the press, present receipts, and an explanation.

While I defend his right to take off for a few days, this guys is screwing the pooch.

The are a bunch of possibilities:

* he is telling the truth (Always a good assumption to make)
* He has a girlfriend
* He HAD a girlfriend and wifey told him to choose where he wanted to be
* He had to decide what to do after he was term limited
* He DID decide what he was going to do after he was term limited, and it bummed him out
* He was abducted by aliens
* He went to Venezuela to hang out with Chavez
* He had a picnic with Carly Simon, but he could not reveal what he found out
* He had a facelift
* He had a sex change
* He adopted a Malawian kid
* He took a wrong turn and just kept going

You said — If I were a resident of SC, I wouldn’t be happy that my governor was completely out of contact.

And that also gives an idea of how he would act as President, too... Sorry... get someone else... :-)
