You said Jesus prayed for the dead.

I said no such thing sir.

When Jesus was on this earth, prayer for the dead was well established:

"they found under the coats of the slain some of the donaries of the idols of Jamnia, which the law forbiddeth to the Jews: so that all plainly saw, that for this cause they were slain. Then they all blessed the just judgment of the Lord, who had discovered the things that were hidden. And so betaking themselves to prayers, they besought him, that the sin which had been committed might be forgotten...And making a gathering, he [Judas] sent twelve [al. two] drachms of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection (for if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead), and because he considered that they who had fallen asleep in godliness, had great grace laid up for them. It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins."

Were is it that Jesus teaches we are NOT to pray for the dead? Was He here to change the law?

Ah, you didn’t say it, but Kirkwood did.

So was idolatry, murder, adultery, theft, covetousness. That does not make it the right thing to do.

This is argumentum ad ignorantiam, and is not a valid argument. Sorry.

> Was He here to change the law?

No He was here to fulfill it.

Now, if you can show me in Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, or Deuteronomy, where Israel were commanded to pray for the dead, you’ll have a valid argument.

Sorry, not in my Bible. Maybe it’s one of the appropriately named Apocryphal books, for which there is no corroboration elsewhere in Scripture.

Here is what the Bible says about the dead.

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

There is much more, but you should study it on your own.
