TEHRAN - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday demanded an end to street protests that have shaken the country since a disputed presidential election a week ago and said any bloodshed would be their leaders fault.
He defended Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the rightful winner of the presidential vote and denied any possibility that it had been rigged, as Ahmadinejad's opponents have asserted.
"If there is any bloodshed, leaders of the protests will be held directly responsible," Khamenei declared in his first address to the nation since the upheaval began.
"The result of the election comes from the ballot box, not from the street," the white-bearded cleric told huge crowds thronging Tehran University and surrounding streets for Friday prayers. "Today the Iranian nation needs calm."

Despite the varied internal and external reports of more ballots being counted than the number of voters in a particular city or town, etc. Right...okie dokie”
Straight out of the ACORN handbook.
“If there is any bloodshed, leaders of the protests will be held directly responsible,”
I always find this sort of statement interesting. Kind of like, “if you make us shoot you, it’s your own fault”. Why didn’t they use that excuse at Kent State?
Obama is sitting back waiting to see if this is going to work and then jump in at the last minute and take credit. Just like he’s ultimately going to take credit for Iraq and Afghanistan. At this point, he’s either quiet or slightly negative about both, waiting until it’s a definite “victory” as acclaimed by his state-run media. THEN, it will be Obama’s victory ...
In a free country you give a rambling incomprehensible speech and you'd get booed off the stage.
In a totalitarian country, you boo, and you disappear.
Intimidating citizens is how these thugs get their "god/Barney Frank complex". We keep our freedom by standing up to them. The Iranians are getting off their knees.
It'll be over for us and them when we're afraid to boo a puffed up ego maniac. And when they slink away in fear.
Castro was a rambling fool and his beaten down citizens would stand in the heat for three and four hours listening to his drivel. Same with Kim IckyPoop in North Korea.
Same with the thugs in Iran. They have the "God/Barney Frank " complex - big time.
Yep, shooting 8 people and stabbing many others to death, not to mention the ones who have been beaten to death isn't bloodshed I guess. I suppose the people ran into the bullets, jumped on the knives and put their heads in the way of the clubs just to start trouble.
We should all be taking to the streets in support of the Iranian protesters. Isolate Hussein’s view and show Iran that We The People are behind them.
They have the mullahs scared and, God bless and protect all those who are truly standing for their freedom, they need to push all the harder.
In some instances the people have stormed Basij headquarters buildings and set them on fire killing some of the "thugs" as Iranians refer to them. However, for the most part they are unarmed and have to depend on sheer numbers to fight back.
Just like Obama, with these demigods there is always something that everyone needs “right now”. When the Mullahs took over they needed a revolution, now they need calm.
I hope the crowds will swell until they threaten Khameini directly.
They need to take an armory or have one turned over to them.
Sometimes the tree of liberty needs to be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots. As someone mentioned, no one is going to hand these people their freedom. They will have to take it and it appears that Khomeni has laid down the gauntlet. Stop it now or there will be lots of blood in the streets. They have to call him on it.
The question is what will the military do? That is most likely the key. If they sit back and do not crack down, then it will just be the people against the government’s thugs. A lot more of a fair fight. If the people don’t have arms, I’m sure that the CIA and Massaad are in their happily handing out arms. Non traceable to the U.S. of course.
Thanks for the info...
“Im sure that the CIA and Massaad are in their happily handing out arms.”
I seriously doubt that the CIA under obozo is doing any such thing. Maybe some “rogue” agents are, but no way obozo would back any action against he mullahs.
The Moussad on the other hand...

Except, only a couple hundred died that day trying to overthrow the Shah.
This time, they aren't waiting for Jimmy Carter to send in Firetrucks with water cannons, they already own helicopter gunships and have a secret police force that is 10 times greater and 100 times more evil than SAVAK.
