VIDEO: Letterman Makes Official Apology To Palin Family

On Monday night's "Late Show" host David Letterman re-addressed his comments about Gov. Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter. Letterman made a more serious apology than his response last week. "I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the governor, and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani," Letterman said.

He said he takes responsibility for telling a joke a that was misunderstood. Nothing more.

Perhaps it is time now for Mr. Letterman to tell us what he really meant when he referred to Gov. Palin's teenage daughter being "knocked up".

Unless someone said “Palin’s at the game with her daughter.” In which case, he wouldn’t have known which of her 3 daughters, which kinda makes it worse since you have to add Piper to the mix then. I don’t buy that he asked about Bristol’s age. That’s covering his butt. If that is the case, he should announce the firing of the staffer who told him it was Bristol and that she was of age. The joke was sexist trash with very possible pedophilia overtones. But, he has forever stained his career and will go down in dishonor when he retires (sooner rather than later I hope).

Conan once made a similar joke involving Willow and Piper.

On October 8, 2008, when Sarah Palin attended a hockey game with two daughters, 6 year old Piper and 13 year old Willow, Conan O'Brien said, "Saturday night, Sarah Palin is going to drop the first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers' hockey game. Then Palin will spend the rest of the game trying to keep the hockey players out of her daughter's penalty box."

It's not quite as overtly sexual as Letterman's but I can't see any other meaning.

He said he thought that it was only Rudy and Sarah at the ballgame.

Yet the joke was about the daughter being knocked up by Arod during the 7th inning stretch.

Doesn’t wash.

But this time there was an apology. And acceptance of blame. I will have to think about this.

The jokes about Sarah looking like a slutty flight attendant and a daughter being a prostitute that she has to keep away from elliot spitzer still stand however.

I like the fact that CBS and Letterman are getting their dues. Heard Hilton Embassy Suites has pulled off CBS. And look at this reply I got from Helman’s! I do love their mayonaise and told them so. Told them I would not give up using their mayonaise but was very sad to hear that they advertise on Letterman/CBS. LETTERS DO WORK FOLKS!

The point is that Letterman will continue to be on the air and will not lose significant viewership. Instead, he will most likely see a boost in his ratings over the next few weeks.

Possibly, but I'm hoping that those who are marching in front on Ed Sullivan Theater will have some impact.
