I’ve read somewhere that sociopathic behavior like this is caused by sexualizing children at a very early age. Animal mutilations like this are the mark of a future serial killer.

I'm not sure the early sexualization has to involve molestation though. You are right on animal mutilation being a scary tell tale sign of future violent psychotic behavior usually against women. It is very lucky they caught him, most likely he would have changed his focus to women. Escalation is typical, one just has to look at Ted Bundy as an example. He started out as a peeping tom, when he became desensitized he changed to rape then lust murder.
