I cannot agree more.

In the beginning of 9/11..England was the only one that stood by us.

As far as some of the other reporting on this thread(not your comments) maybe we need to remember that our times have changed.

In the past, leaders lead.

I feel very badly that she was snubbed by these upstarts. And I hope she refuses any invitation.

The royals behaved well in WW2, resisted exile to Canada (or even Balmoral) as urged by the gov’t. Stayed in London area thoughout and so on. Things were different back then, the fact that she even joined the ATS was pretty remarkable.

The King of England didn’t flee his country during WWII, neither did my British friends from that era, part of being Royalty seems to be getting extraordinary credit for doing the most ordinary things.

O.K...I have a genuine question to ask.

In the 1940’s the Royals were a big deal. Of course they didn't flee. They led.

Do we, in this country have such leadership? Or if we are bombarded to hell and back, do we have such a leader?

A figurehead can inspire.

Hey..Michelle is planting an argula garden. /s

BFD the King didn’t leave, especially at a time when his empire was at risk from rebellion, his less rich neighbors didn’t leave either.

Everybody lived in Britain and got on with their lives, I have friends that were there, they don’t get bonus credit for it and they didn’t have all the protection that the rulers did, do you think that the King of England was going to die from a bombing raid?

Do you know the history of American leaders? There are an awful lot of military men among them.

How dare you start attacking our Presidents in defense of Kings and Queens.

Thanks FR_addict. Yes, Joe Kennedy was a despicable human being. At least his sons Joe and John served in WWII. Ted on the other hand has been a worthless piece of —— his whole life.

Ansel12, I’m not going to give you a hard time about your comments. I will respond on point.

The Queen could relinquish her position, and her family would continue to be rich beyond our wildest dreams for millenniums to come. She holds very little power at all in today’s Great Britain. She is a figurehead. Yes people in our nation promote charities too. Most of them don’t have the visibility of the Queen, and so she has a very favorable impact on these charities.

As for a 16 year old child getting an army title, I don’t have a problem with it. It’s an honorary title, and it was symbolic and supportive of the war effort. You and I wouldn’t really expect this kid to be waved out in public to be exposed to Hitler’s operatives.

Yes, she was part of the assignment to the Windsor Castle. Tell me what you think she should have been exposed to.

In the U.S. Patricia Nixon wasn’t inducted and shipped off to Vietnam.

She is rich because she is a Monarch, and her military charade was all part of the imagery that they do in an effort to stay on their throne.

Some of you are trying to make her something she isn’t, my ancestors would be annoyed or worse to see some of this ass kissing of the British crown that takes place here.

She will not hold a grudge. She’ll come if she’s up to it.

She realizes what a child we have in the oval office.

Ansell...you know that I agree with you most of the time.

However, my people...or my tribe as wardaddy would say...are from Great Britain...in particular N. Ireland.

I don’t mind that they want to continue the tradition of a monarchy.
It’s perfectly within their right.

Why do you have a problem with it?

BTW, I’m Celtic, and proud of it. ;o)

I’m Irish too, and I share your views on this DixieChick2000.

If anyone here should have a soiled view of the Queen, it would be us.

All of my postings clarifying the military record of the Queen of England have been here on conservative FR, never on any forum of the Queen’s subjects.

My family was here to throw off the yoke of the Monarchists and then to fight again when they invaded us in an effort to destroy America’s freedom in it’s infancy, I don’t think that current American patriots getting carried away in their adulation of Royalty should not at least have some sobering facts mentioned to them, such as that the “Royal” family sold them another public relations myth.

Dictators, Emperors, Monarchists, parasites of all kinds were rightfully disparaged in my Texas schools but that was pre Diana and the cult of celebrity of course, at a time when our culture was still more masculine and closer to the old America (out spoken, rough around the edges, freedom loving, Monarchy hating), now we are more European and sophisticated.

On another thread where the Queen’s mythical claim of actually having been a WWII soldier was being believed by many, someone posted this which describes the thinking of some of the current American generations, “So she really is your Queen. Cool! (I know, I’m a Yank and tradition (here anyway) says we should not look toward the monarchy with favor, but I do anyway. Such cool houses! the jewels! the TRADITION! I like it!)”.

My favorite post on that thread was this one “ While you are at it,, also compare starting points and what they accomplished on their own.
Really, what has she ever truly accomplished? She has basically learned to hold a teacup, to read rousing prepared words, and to pose impeccably. But tell me one thing she has ever “accomplished”. At best, you can say she hasnt squandered the family fortune and isnt rude in public. Thats all i see. But its a massive stretch to call her a leader. And if she is, when does she get credit for the failure.
But her admirers are like cult members.”
